With the approvals, girls attending both schools will have another sports option, too, since volleyball and football are informally, though frequently, linked because of the requirements of Title IX.
In Krum, the proposition, which passed 639 to 317, provides $7.5 million in all for the new football stadium, an addition to the gym and assorted support facilities.
The district plans to construct a $1.7 million, 1,500-seat stadium for the football program and a $3.38 million concession stand and field house. For the volleyball program, the bond provides for a $1.3 million addition to the gymnasium.
With its passage, Krum school district’s 2009-10 tax rate is projected to be $1.439 per $100, up from $1.366.
Krum school district Superintendent Troy Hamm could not be reached for comment.
In Ponder, Superintendent Bruce Yeager said he was pleased with the turnout. Some 694 people voted in early voting and on Election Day, or 175 more compared to a year ago.
“That’s a significant increase in participation,” Yeager said. “This was a referendum on support for the kids.”
The proposition, which passed 477 to 217, provides $13.4 million in all for myriad improvements as well as several big-ticket items. About $4 million is planned for the football stadium and surrounding facilities. About $3 million will add a gymnasium and dressing rooms to Ponder Junior High School. About $1.9 million is planned to add a choir and band hall to the high school.
With its passage, Ponder school district’s 2008-09 tax rate is projected to be $1.383 per $100, up from $1.228 per $100.
