that sucks. everyone needs turf unless you have a grounds crew devoted just to the field. I think that the field turf looks better anyways

It sucks that we cant get turf, but owell we have a nice grass field that does the job though. I think the main reason in not getting is, is just because of other projects. Renovations to other athletic facilities and the high school structure and a new elementary school. It would be nice to get turf, but were doing just fine without it.

that does suck. is the stadium itself in good shape or does a new one need to be built?

Stadium itself is great! Except for the bathrooms....
Stadium is huge. It was built when we were 5A.

Calallen's bond passed with flying colors...field turf and expanded visitor seating for the football field, upgrades to the baseball field, softball field, and Ag Farm, and a new indoor aquatic center, plus new school construction and upgrades to existing academic facilities.

Calallen voters approve bonds
By Israel Saenz (Contact)

Calallen Independent School District voters approved a $43.6 million bond issue to improve existing facilities and fund construction of a new campus and other facilities.

Voters approved the bond 66.8 percent to 33.2 percent, according to complete, unofficial results.

The bond will fund improvements to Wood River Elementary School, East Elementary School, Calallen Middle School and Calallen High School, as well as fund a new Magee Intermediate School campus.

Its passage also means district property taxes will go up by 17 cents per $100 dollar valuation, from $1.10 to $1.27, although disabled district residents and district residents 65 or older will be exempt from the increase.

A separate proposition to refund a $450,000 district debt incurred in 2002 also was approved, 65.3 percent to 34.7 percent.

"The best thing about this is that it will keep us on the cutting edge of technology and allow us to better integrate technology into instruction," Superintendent Arturo Almendarez said. "This is the technology generation, and we want to do everything we can to have the best technology."

The bond will provide $3.5 million for districtwide technology improvements, and $850,000 for a multi-task technology center at the high school.

The largest part of the bond -- $13.9 million -- will fund construction of the new Magee campus.

"Magee could be ready within a year and a half," Almendarez said, adding the bond will likely be sold in January and the district could see money by early March.

Almendarez said disabled residents and residents must apply for the tax-increase exemption; forms are available at the district's administration building.

Good idea unless it backfires and the whole shebang gets shot down and they have to back to square one with just what HAS to be. :(
