How common is it for a one high school school district to have an athletic director that is not coaching?

when Jesse Crow, who was AD/HC at Yoakum for years, left last year - I think he took the AD job at some school district (Brazosport or Brazoswood maybe) and he's the Ad only - no coaching (or at least that's what we heard)

I believe my high school, Lampasas, has an AD that doesn't actually coach a sport. First time they've done this I believe.

Breckenridge has been doing this for years. They actually made the football coach AD for 3 years ( up until last season), and I don't think it was as efficient as was hoped.

In my highschool years, (mid sixties) Sinton had seperate HC and AD positions.

This would be a reason why the HF job was turned down by some.
