I wonder if the NFL will move the San Diego-Houston game to another venue this Sunday. The Chargers have already had to move their practices out of the city.

Seems to me the NFL had to move a game out of San Diego a few years ago. It may have been because of wildfires.

Cool.
It would be the Texans first appearance on Monday Night Football. Too bad it takes a raging wildfire to do it.:(

Southern California hillsides are a tinder-box most of the year. It's almost impossible to discover what starts these things, deliberate arson, careless campers, a cig tossed out the window, lightning strikes, high winds knocking down power lines, all of these have happened there at one time or another over the years. Then, in the spring it's mudslides.

My cousin lives in the Santa Clarita area which is up I-5 from LA.

I called my uncle last night and the winds had shifted and went around them.

I gotta check this morning. Really terrible for all those people.

I feel for the folks who have lost homes in a way but in another I don't. This is what I do for a living and have folks from our office fighting these fires right now.

People build their homes in hillsides, in the middle of the forest, in areas that have traditionally burned for centuries, etc. To save their homes from fire is impossible. In the last 10 years we end up doing the best we can to protect these homes from oncoming fire but in the end it is near impossible. It usually takes mother nature to shift the winds, etc to save them.

We spend way too much time protecting life and property due to these homes than we do actually trying to put the fires out. I spent 3 weeks in Idaho this summer (East Zone Complex) working to save 50 homes that were a 5 mile, 2.5 hour 4 wheel drive to get to. It was a beautiful area along the Salmon River but near impossible to protect and be safe.

Keep the firefighters in your thoughts cuz they are risking their lives and busting their humps 16 hours a day to do what they can.

Just got back from a conference in San Diego. There is a haze surrounding the whole city from the smoke. Many are wearing masks due to the smoke and ash. All of the Bayside hotels were full from refugees. The Santa Anna winds gusted up to 100 mph during the first few days of the fires. This would allow the fire to top a hill and then the embers from the wind would blow up to two miles downwind to start new fires. Some of the embers being blown that far were the size of milk cartons. In regards to the football game, the football stadium itself was close to our hotel and is not in any danger. The problem with hosting a football game there would be more related to infrastructure in surrounding areas and hotel/flight availability.
