The Dallas Mavericks got harsh news Friday as the NBA suspended forward Josh Howard for two games for his forearm to the neck of Sacramento Kings center Brad Miller.

Miller, who instigated the incident with a strong shove on Mavericks guard Devin Harris, did not receive any penalty.

The Mavericks had expected a one-game suspension, but the league's decision to keep Howard out of the season opener Oct. 31 at Cleveland and the second game Nov. 2 at Atlanta will make the start of the season much more difficult for Dallas.

The incident occurred with 7:01 left in the second quarter of the Mavericks 101-99 win Oct. 16 at Las Cruces, N.M. After Miller and Mavericks rookie Nick Fazekas were tangled on a rebound, Miller shoved the first Maverick he could find, which happened to be Harris.

Howard ran from midcourt to deliver a hard forearm to the back of Miller's head and neck area.
