Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who injured five local high school students Wednesday in Fort Worth.

The five Central High School cross-country runners were on their morning jog just before 7 a.m. when a car plowed into them.

“He slowed down just long enough for us to get in the middle of the intersection, then he sped up and hit all five of us,” said one of the victims, Kelsey Lucas.

The five members of the junior varsity track team were at the corner of Ray White and Shiver roads when they spotted an approaching car that appeared to be slowing down for a stop sign. They proceeded to cross the street when the driver hit all five of them, then fled the scene.

Lucas said she didn’t think it was intentional, but she was certain the driver knew what he had done.

“He knew because he had to reverse off of us. His bumper was up to my knees.”

The girls suffered cuts and bruises from the incident. Lucas was the most seriously injured of the group. Her knee was swollen and required an MRI, and she said she will miss the district track meet next week.

Authorities are still searching for the driver involved. He was described as driving a maroon hatchback.

While the first character on the driver’s Texas license plate was unknown, the rest read _ 9 6-H V V. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fort Worth Police.

ought to be easy to locate...based on the number of characters they retrieved from the license plate. How many maroon hatchbacks in Ft Worth with the last 5 characters of the LP that are the same.
