Dang. I find out where a 100.05 would be in your class. I might have to be "sick" for a year and graduate with you so I can be top 5%

ok look
you dont start trying to be in the top 10 your jr year
you start back in pre-k
I know this idea will escape you and others
but you prepare early for it
many of you will say what does pre-k have to do with graduation rank?
everything
you build on a foundation
you start that foundation before/when you enter school
yes your class rank is for your hs years
but unless someone ahead of you transfers/dies/drops out
it will be difficult for you to make top 10
first sign up for classes that give extra grade points
5.0 classes
all that you can
make 100's or better in all your classes
yes it can be done
thats about all you can control
what you do
its hard to move up much you just dont have enough classes to make that big of a difference
when you started HS would have been a better time
but that time is past
you might with some luck make 20
which will put you in the top 10%
top 10? its a reach
Yeah I know my oldest was 3rd with a 104.28
2nd was 104.29
band got us
it was a 4.0 class not a 5.0
the other girl wasnt in band
oh well she is happy in college
got a good education
doing well

do all you can do
you cant control what others do

its late
you might make top 10% maybe

also go talk to the counselor
he/she might help

mwynn05
10-15-2007, 03:58 PM
High school rank doesn't really mean anything....if you want to go to any public school in texas all you have to be is top percent because trust me once you get in college no one gives a crap where you ranked in your hs class

you can prolly move up into the higher teens by the time u graduate...but really all u need to worry about is top 10% unless if ur going to a school taht gives scholarships for top 5% or so (Baylor does this i dunno about other schools).....at the end of my soph. year i was 22 or so and honestly wasnt giving it my all, just trying to make A's...after i found that out i decided i'd see how high i could get and moved up to 14 by the time i graduated...i dont know how ur shcool works though and yall have less kids so it could be harder, we had 500 in my graduating class....

It is very very difficult to move up between your junior and senior years. Why?

Because everyone has realized the same thing you have.

It is helpful to get in the top 10% of your class. Why?

Because there are scholarships based on your class standing and then your SAT or ACT score. If you are not in the top 10% then it does not matter what your SAT score is.

And . . . a top 10% is automatic acceptance into any state school. By law.

I heard about that...I like the rule though...it stops parents from getting upset that their student is #2 or #3 at their HS and moving them to another HS for their senior year just so they can be a valedictorian.

every thread i start, i just get a rolleyes from u or hops.... I can't and won't try and answer for burnet44. As I have posted before I consider the downlow to be a family. In a family if someone says something that the older members of the family think they shouldn't have they will usually say something. As I said if after you type a post if you will hit the Preview Reply and read what you have typed many times you will just back out of the post instead of hitting the Submit Reply button. I know that if you have read very long you will have read where people have said this multiple times. So that is what I am trying to tell you with the raised eyes. Read before you post and maybe you won't spend time out of the game as I think you have experienced first hand. Strictly a little advice from an old fart, take it or leave it.

talk is what you do best buddy...but you do focus for 45 min a day....and it could be easy for you to try to follow some of the others in class.

your boy BC likes to follow in his class.

the trick to college for me was to go to class everyday...i bet i didnt miss 10 classes in my 4 years of college and 2 years of grad school.

i wasnt always the best student....but i was always in class.

the thing that matters the most is being in top ten percent of your class...
that is because most colleges automatically accept students in the top ten percent of their class, and it really takes the stress out of the ACT and SAT...
I know personally because i stayed up all night hunting and went and took my SAT that next mornin, i was so tired, didnt care, blew through it, and it didnt mean anything. Except if u do exceptionally well then u can get some scholarship money out of it, but that is usually pretty rare. Another word of advice, take the ACT instead of the SAT, it is much easier to take.

So u only have to move up a few spaces but I think u can pull it off.

I got an academic scholarship to tech that is worth a little over 20gs, and some academic competitiveness grants but it still is really hard to find the finances.
The thing that makes it hard for my parents is that I am a twin and they are puttin us both through college at the same time...

your proving my point here....i am saying if you apply yourself you will get scholarships...someone insuiated there is no point to try earlier and i was just arguing that....i realize baylor is expensive and if you get scholarships to other schools it will be cheaper than goign to baylor, thats just private vs. public schools no matter what school your talking about....but i was using me and my sister as an example, if you apply yourself you can get enough money to make a private school be cheaper than a public if you want to go there...or if you want to go public you can make it even cheaper than waht it already is....reguardless where you go its goign to cost an arm and a leg (minus junior college in most places, but not all) so you should try and get as much scholarship money as you can cause if your like me and have to get loans to finance the rest of it then your going to be paying that money back times 2......

um....baylor cost roughtly 30 K a year...but that was last year so we can say 32 a year for thi syear....by the time a freshman graduated w/ tuition increases it will be closer to them spending 34 or 35 a year on average for their 4 years...that would be 140 thousand....minus the scholarship so that would be 108 thousand....that is still wayyyy too much to pay for college but it isnt 144 thousand (that 35 is very generous too, i got through college by living off of aobut 4 grand less per year than what baylor says expected cost is in my 4 years, you can live pretty cheaply in waco just a lot of baylor kids are used to an expensive lifestyle and they seem to poll them for the expected cost figures)....

if you can live cheaply and know how to not spend money for everything (ya know do stuff like cook and all) then baylor would cost closer to 30 a year instead of 35....that would mean total cost would be about 120 and w/ the scholarsihp bring it down to 88...that sitll is way too much but ur getting closer to reasonable level, esp. if you got even more scholarships....
