Rockdale is a pretty young team. Sounds like good things to come for Rockdale. Not writing this season off yet, because it sounds like there are 2 playoff spots up for grabs. But.....man. Next year they will be tough.

I wish I could say that the Panthers showed up to play. :dispntd: :dispntd: I have to say that was one of the crappiest performances we've had in quite some time. This big head "can't be beat" attitude has GOT to go. Defense - it's NOT okay to show up for two plays in the first half. Offense - you guys have got to hang onto the ball. Everybody - you need to stop with the stupid penalties. :dispntd:

I don't think anyone who was there watching could've thought any different than what I said. It was an ugly win, and I'll take it. I just hope they're not satisfied with it.


Whatever butt-chewing that goes on at the half needs to be gotten out of the way before the game. They need a fire lit under them.

Congrats to the Panthers on win #6. ALL the kudos to Rockdale for playing hard and never die attitude.

I'd have to echo LHPM's comments. It was a less than stellar performance for the Panthers, in my opinion. Once again, first half sloppy, I guess they get the "speech" at halftime and come out strong. This will not work when we play tough playoff teams. Does it seem to anyone else like we are only playing to the level of the opponent? I guess some could say that is okay since a "W" is a "W." Personally, I'd prefer to see the "machine" offense I know we have, and a powerful defense. Yes, the bar is ever-increasing and we have high standards.

Congrats to the Panthers on keeping the undefeated season going. It could/should end up the first undefeated regular season in Vance's era. That'll be cool.

Congrat's to LH for the win last night. I didn't think that LH played bad. They rushed for 550 +\- yds but had 0 passing. Rockdale had only one stop on defense all night and that was late in the 4th qtr on downs after LH had gotten flagged for 3 straight penalities for block in the back. LH never punted either. So all in all, i thought they looked fine on offense.

Now the pass defense is another story. To make a repeat run at another state title, you guys have to get the pass coverage going. Rockdale seemed to be able to play pitch and catch all night. Now, I wish we would have ran some post routes because LH's answer for our passing was move the safety's out and give the corners deep help leaving the middle of the field wide open. I thought the Tigers had a good game plan on offense and I wonder what would have happened if we had scored before the half when we were at the LH 3 yd line and turned the ball over.

All in all great game with great kids. Classy move by LH coaching staff at end of game and was great to see both teams together for a post game prayer.

Good luck to the Panthers on their pursuit of a second straight state title.

I mentioned before the game how bad we have been in the first half of games this year, aside from the Cuero game. This one started off the same. We let them return it to our 40, gave them 20 yards in penalties, including a roughing the passer on 4th down, and that set the tone. First half, 16-19. Second half, 21-6. While we pulled away in the second, we still didn't play great by any means.

The offense played an okay game, but when you outgain your opponent by nearly 300 yds, it shouldn't be a 12 point game. The entire team lacked intensity, and that shows up more on defense. Just because you won state, teams aren't going to lay down for you. We're going to get the exact opposite. Rockdale outplayed us in every facet of the game. We're just a much better team and were still able to win.

I'm not worried about the pass defense. Rockdale threw for more yards on us last year (225) than they did this year (181). It only seemed worse this year because the game was closer. We didn't open up to a 28-0 lead this time, even though we played like we did. The main thing our DBs need to do is turn and find the ball. We had position on the deep balls, but if you don't turn your head and find the ball, you're not likely to break up the pass and more likely to get a pass interference penalty. If our DB is looking for the ball, neither PI gets called.

I'd like to see us come out against Hutto with the intensity we showed against Cuero. Another two weeks of practice sucks, though. It's not like we'd be playing Austin Johnston this year anyway, though.
