He is considered by many to have been the first great country music singer. He was born in 1897 in Meridian, Miss and worked as a brakeman for the railroads until he started his singing career in 1927 which lasted until his untimely death in 1933. He was great and this is a chance for you (especially you country music fans) to hear and see this great pioneer. When the Country Music Hall of Fame was established in 1961 he was the first along with Hank Williams Sr. and Fred Rose to be inducted. He was a great singer and could play that guitar. Plus he could sure yodel. This scene was filmed around 1930. Enjoy!
