I have read several online reports about a play in this game and I would like to hear from any eyewitnesses...This is what the news story says:

BROWNFIELD - After scoring a touchdown with 1:28 remaining, Brownfield went for the tie but ended up with a victory.

After Rob Simmons' extra point was blocked, Matt Hernandez picked up the loose ball in the end zone to give the Cubs a 2-point conversion and a one-point win over the Rangers.

=======================
If you saw the play, where was the ball actually picked up by Hernandez? Did any Greenwood players touch the ball before Hernandez got it?

Brownfield 28,

Greenwood 27

BROWNFIELD -- A freak two-point conversion play cost the Greenwood Rangers their fifth win of the season, as Brownfield topped Greenwood 28-27 on Friday.

Brownfield scored a touchdown with 1:28 remaining in the fourth quarter and went for the point-after kick to tie the game at 27. Greenwood blocked the kick, and Matt Hernandez recovered it for Brownfield in the end zone for the two-point conversion.

Aubrey Sewell kicked a pair of field goals, and Kinsey Williams, Blake McColloch and Colton Wilber all scored rushing touchdowns for the Rangers.

The Midland paper was wrong. He didn't recover it in the end zone. He picked it up behind the line of scrimmage and ran it in.

I don't know if any Greenwood player touched the ball or not after it was blocked. I don't think any body knows unless they reviewed the film. Are you saying that if a Greenwood player touched the ball after it was blocked, it cannot be advanced? If you are, there is no way anyone could be sure at the time.

The refs talked about it about a minute and ruled it a 2 point conversion.

As long as it was picked up behind the line of scrimmage and it never had actually crossed the line of scrimmage, both teams are eligible to pick it up and advance it. You will agree that the news story makes it sound like the blocked kick made its way to the end zone where the player recovered the ball. If that had happened, then the kicking team would not have been awarded any points.

No, it looked like the kid who blocked it caught it right in the gut and the ball just basically lay there at about the 10 when the Brownfield kid picked it up and ran it in.

Thanks. I was worried the zebras might have made a mistake, but , as usual, they got it right. ;)
