What's going on this year?? Several teams are making some noise that haven't EVER had a showing like this before, or if they have it's been decades...

Whitesboro is 5-0 (knocked off the '06 9-3A runnerup Prosper)
Lumberton is 4-0 (knocked off defending 22-4A champ Dayton)
Northbrook is 4-0
Palacios is 4-1
Kountze is 4-1
Nevada Community is 3-2

The remaining 10 programs on this list are a combined 5-42 so far this year

Longest Current Playoff Droughts Statewide
(ranked by total years fielding a varsity team without qualifying)

1. 87 years - Whitesboro (fielded 1st varsity team prior to beginning of UIL playoffs in 1920, Zero playoff appearances)

3. 60 years - Fort Worth North Side (last appearance in 1946)
4. 54 years - North Dallas (last appearance in 1952)

13. 33 years - Kountze (last appearance in 1973)

Palacios' claim to fame is that they currently have a 5 game winning streak in playoff games as they won the 2A state title in 1964 and have never returned to the playoffs since.

I am sure one reason Whitesboro has not made it is they normally have had to play Celina and Pilot Point.

9-3A Whitesboro (5-0) 87 seasons without qualifying
maybe

10-3A Nevada Community (3-2) 60 seasons without qualifying
nope

29-3A Palacios (4-1) 42 seasons without qualifying
best chance of those listed

22-4A Lumberton (4-0) 41 seasons without qualifying
hard to say they will with their history 40/60

24-2A Kountze (4-1) 33 seasons without qualifying
see Lumberton 50/50

19-5A Northbrook (4-0) 33 seasons without qualifying

Yoakum 0-4 If whitesboro wins the games they should:

bonham, van alstyne, princeton,

and can figure out a way to beat one of these teams:

celina, PP, or FW

then that would put em in the playoffs huh?

Too bad they are not in a weak 4 team district.

I dunno, they've started out 3-0 a couple of times the last few years and nothing has happened...

I'd say they have a good shot this year...

There is still a possibility that 5 of the 6 teams listed could make the playoffs this year... that would be amazing if Community and Whitesboro were to both qualify, since both have been around since before 1920 and never qualified.

24-2A Standings

East Chambers (3-0-0)
Buna (3-0-0)
Hardin (3-1-0)
Kountze (2-1-0)
Warren (1-3-0)
Deweyville (0-3-0)
Anahuac (0-4-0)

Kountze is playing Hardin this Friday... and then has East Chambers and Deweyville to close out.

22-4A Standings

Port Neches-Groves (4-0-0)
Lumberton (3-1-0)
Dayton (3-1-0)
Nederland (3-1-0)
Beaumont Central (2-2-0)
Beaumont Ozen (1-3-0)
Little Cypress-Mauriceville (0-4-0)
Vidor (0-4-0)

Lumberton has Ozen, LC-M and Nederland left to play

10-3A Standings

Royse City (2-0-0)
Wills Point (2-0-0)
Nevada Community (1-1-0)
Commerce (1-1-0)
Quinlan Ford (0-2-0)
Emory Rains (0-2-0)

Community has Commerce, Emory Rains and Wills Point left to play and needs to win two out of the three to clinch a spot.

9-3A Standings

Celina (4-0-0)
Frisco Wakeland (3-1-0)
Whitesboro (3-1-0)
Prosper (2-2-0)
Pilot Point (2-2-0)
Van Alstyne (1-3-0)
Princeton (1-3-0)
Bonham (0-4-0)

Whitesboro has Pilot Point, Van Alstyne and Celina remaining, and needs to win two out of the three to clinch a spot.

29-3A Standings

Cuero (2-0-0)
Gonzales (2-0-0)
Goliad (0-1-0)
Yoakum (0-1-0)
Palacios (0-2-0)

Palacios has Goliad and Yoakum left to play, and if they win both games, their in

Northbrook is now 0-4-0 in district and is eliminated from playoff contention in 19-5A

How do you never qualify for the playoffs? You would think they would get lucky with a wave of athletes atleast once.

And isn't lubbock won of the all time winningest programs?

WOS87

Whitesboro, at 6-1, has only won six games in a season 8 times prior in the past 90 years...

1986 7-3-0
1980 6-4-0
1970 6-3-1
1966 6-4-0
1965 6-3-1
1960 6-4-0
1953 7-3-0
1948 8-2-0

As for Lubbock, they were great in the 1940's and 1950's but haven't done much since... they have an all-time record of 395-455-35, meaning they have won less games in 100 years than Southlake Carroll has in 45.

You would think so. Looked it up and it turns out that Whitesboro has not been in the same classification or district as PP or Celina until the last few years. Celina has played them 6 times - 2 of those games were in the 60's. We have shared a district with Southlake Carrol more times (8 years) than we have Whitesboro.

If you only have one winning season every ten years on average, I don't think it matters who is in your district... prior to 1982 it would have been almost impossible to qualify with a losing record and up until 1998, very unllikely...

With 3 and 4 teams going from each district it won't be long before all of these huge streaks come to an end... although I can't see Huntington qualifying any time soon... they're 0-2 in district this year, extending their record district game losing streak to 73 in a row. They've only one one district game in the schools entire 26 season history.
