WHITESBORO – Travis Labhart’s third 1-yard touchdown sneak with 14 seconds remaining in the game gave Whitesboro a lead, then Whitesboro’s defense stopped a last-gasp Prosper rally for a 31-28 upset victory Friday night in the District 9-3A opener for both teams.
Whitesboro (4-0, 1-0) got 240 receiving yards and a touchdown from senior Austin Gann. Junior quarterback Travis Labhart finished 14-of-7 for 304 yards, a TD, and no intrerceptions.
A 38-yard field goal by Jacob Williams with 4:28 left broke a 21-all tie and gave Whitesboro its first lead of the night, but Prosper (3-1, 0-1) answered with a 70-yard, four-play drive capped by Hunter Nix’s quarterback keeper with 2:53 to go to give Prosper the lead back.
Whitesboro, however, came right back with a 44-yard completion from Labhart to Gann at the Prosper 6 to set up Labhart’s scoring plunge.
Nix passed for 163 yards and a second-quarter TD to Cory Miller, and rushed for 34 yards and two TDs.
Rusty Neely added an 89-yard kickoff return for a score in the second quarter.
