It will be on from 8:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. If you can't watch it in person then set those recorders.
This is a very good movie even though the ladies will like it better the men will too.
It has sad parts in it.
The movie was made in 1944 during World War 2 and deals with how a middle age man (Tim Hilton) is drafted during WW2 and his wife and daughters are left behind to deal with problems on the homefront. They deal with problems on loss of husband's income plus certain items that are rationed during the war. It is based on a book of fiction by Margaret Buell Wilder called "Since You Went Away: Letters to a Soldier from his Wife." Even though fiction it is something that could have happened anywhere more than once and again at different times espcially in times of war. Also remember the movie was made in 1944 while the war was still going on. This movie has stood the test of time because the movie portrays people that are real and you get the same kind of people in any area facing similar issues but in a different time.

Agnes Moorehead's chacter Mrs. Hawkins is alive and well in nearly every city even today. The mean spirit and comments after Sept. 11, 2001 reflect the same mean-spirited mindset her character displayed.

The movie is great as is the acting. It won an oscar for Best Music and was nominated for Best Picture, Best Actress (Claudette Colbert), Best Supporting Actress (Jennifer Jones) and Best Supporting Actor (Monty Woolley).

Claudette Colbert is the wife and mother (Mrs. Anne Hilton) left behind who has to take in a boarder to make ends meet and this innocent act of course leads to a town scandal.

Jennifer Jones is the oldest daughter Jane Hilton.

Joseph Cotton is Lieutenant Tony Willet

Shirley Temple is the younger daughter Brid Hilton

Monty Woolley is the boarder - retired Col. William Smollett

Lionell Barrymore is a Clergyman

Robert Walker is Coporal William Smollett II

Hattie McDaniel is Fidelia

Agnes Morehead as Mrs. Emily Hawkins

In minor roles but actors that were to become bigger were

Keenan Wynn as Lt. Soloman, Guy Madison as Sailer Harold E. Smith and Craig Stevens as Danny Williams.

One of the subplots involves Smollett and his son. Also the son becomes remantically involved with Jane and when he is called to duty there is a sad scene at the station when the young lovers must part. Ironically the two stars were married in real life and were at the end of a failed marriage and were divorced shortly afterward.

See this movie. It is as relevent today as back in 1944.
