Why say that?

I went to college to coach and teach but chose R-TV because
A I liked it
B quicker way to get done

But I never shook the coaching itch and I want to scratch it at least once

If you scratch it, it wil get infected.

the coaching part is ok
its the teaching that will kill ya

go coach little league/pee-wee/summerleague
or better still take up a sport-tennis-golf-bowling-your wife
go to the doctor for your itch

You are jaded from teaching in a bad school. :(

Or I am jaded from working with the bad kids that get kicked out of a good school?

JADED! And some people wander whats wrong with me. Try teaching in an alternative school. These kids aren't welcome on the campus's they came from. Has some great rewards but can be very trying at times.

Me too! I would like to go into broadcasting, so I can rip coaches for not calling the touchdown play!

I would volunteer with a local school and try it out before you jump in with both feet. I always thought I wanted to be a teacher.....when I started college, I volunteered at a local high school.....and I hated it! I'm glad I got some first-hand experience before I committed a career to it.

There are plenty of teachers in my immediate family; and they're good at it 'cause they have more patience than I do when it comes to the apathetic students. You should make sure you really want to work with today's "entitlement culture" kids before you jump ship completely.

At least that's what I think.....

Not to mention that most Texas school's today are more concerned with teaching T.A.K.S. than the "Three Rs". Be sure you want to deal with that level of bureaucracy.

I say go for it TB while you can. I always wanted to and never did because I waited too long. With a house full of kids (4 boys) and a wife, mortgage, 2 car payments and the works, I couldn't find a way. If you can do it now, get after it. You can always go back to your other life. At least you won't wonder what if the rest of your life.

Don't try it unless your wife can carry the family on her insurance for a decent price, either. Our school's health insurance is thru the roof!!!!

I don't see why the state doesn't insure teachers. I thought they worked for the state? It would make more sense to have all the teachers in the state on the same insurance because you could get better rates.

I'd like a career change--I'd like to be a man! So much easier than the woman's role. Sorry guys, I am sure many of you help, I just wish women could have wives to do for them too. Living with five males has been an eye-opener into the male psyche, definitely an education. I wish I could only have to handle one thing at a time.

The insurance lobby
They give the "State" employees a break
in return our legislators let the insurance companies
set the rates for the other "State" employees
its a trade off
basically selling out the teachers and other state employees
to the insurance lobby
the insurance companies pay big money and give the "selected state" employees a break
while they make bigger money OFF of the teachers and other groups

guess which group our govenor/senators/reps/law enforcement belong too?

the group with the breaks

the teachers are too big of a money maker for the insurance companies to give a break too

My brother is a 25 year coach and teacher, wife also teaches. Family salary is around $120,00 is that bad or good ? depends on who you ask. He tells me that there is no other career that he would ever consider. Talks about kids, sports, everything school all the time. He and his wife love it. Is it for everybody? No. I am fortunate to enjoy my career as well. I get to be outside/inside and things change daily. It fits me. Many people have "jobs" that are cutthroat, boring, stressfull etc. but because they earn a decent wage they say they have a "good" job. Pray, think, evaluate your life and go for it if it seems right.
