Hall of Fame president Dale Petroskey, also interviewed on the show, said accepting the ball did not mean the Hall endorses the viewpoint that Barry Bonds used drugs.

"We're happy to get it,'' he said. "We're a nonprofit history museum, so this ball wouldn't be coming to Cooperstown without Marc Ecko buying it from the fan who caught it.''

well, if Smalls' ball with a Babe Ruth signature can be destroyed by a giant dog and still be valuable, then an asterisk shouldn't devalue it THAT much...

IMO, regardless of what you personally feel about Bonds, you can't deny that the ball is part of history. I think that it should be enshrined. Sometimes history isn't always pretty, but that doesn't mean it didn't happen. Barry Bonds IS the all-time home run king in Major League Baseball, and that ball is the ball that was hit to break the record.

Steroids, or not, you still have to have skills to hit the ball being pitched 2 U! Barry is the Man, and there are no asteriks by Mark, or Sammy!

Perhaps the ball will be a valuable reminder of a time in pro sports that steroids were used and wrong. Yes, he holds a record and regardless of an *, history will note his use of artificial means to get that record.
