They do have good tradition. But are they the "power house" in Region I??

Cuero is the easy answer for Region IV.
Celina in Region II.

I guess, what I wanna know is can we really define a team as a "power house" if they only have a run of a few years?

Sinton was playing for the region title 4 straight years, i know, i know - region 4 is weak. :hand:

I'm serious with this question. :p

My definition would be teams that are seriously in the hunt year in and year out over many years. They might have a down year every so often, but not more than a year or so in a decade or two. It's not something that can be earned in a few years - it takes time.

And no, that's not the s/a answer I really, really wanted to give. ;)

in my mind...a "power house" team is a team that is very well balanced and consistent.....and that being said...I mean it in two ways....Balanced in that their offense and defense are both strong, the O puts up big points on a consistent basis as well as the D either pitching shutouts or allowing very few points in comparison to the points their O scores. Also....balance on offense...being two dimensional, etc.

That is a very good answer. One that was examined at Smoaky's just last week. Question was what is considered a dynasty? Same thing really in different clothes. I personally like the word power house better because it indicates a powerful group. Dynasty sounds more like it is expected while power house sounds like it is produced.

Food for thought.
Going back 10 years Celina is number 1 in wins--

138 - 10.

twent years

SLC number one at
244 37
Celina number 2
234 32 1

30 years

Celina is number 5 at
295 - 73

40 years

Celina is number 1 at

398 - 84

with Refugio second

396 - 95.

AT 50 years Celina was number 6.

Only four schools make the top 15 for each increment listed.
Celina, Southlake Carroll, Highland Park, and La Marque.

Celina has the highest winning percentages in the 10 20 and 40 year increments and were no worse than number 6 in winning percentage.
This information was accumulated by WOS87 and many thanks.

Celina's body of work covers 1a and 2a with 3 region titles when there was no state title and a state title in 1a. I would call them a football powerhouse by wins over time much like SLC.

Most State Championships - All Time
12 - Booker, 1975-93 (national record of 20 by Phoenix Xavier College Preparatory, AZ, 1980-01)

How many people on here have you heard ever say that Rockdale is a powerhouse? So your argument is flawed. It is some(not all) that make that argument for Sweetwater on an almost daily basis.

Not that I'm coming to the defense of Sweetwater, but not many programs in Texas have 600+ wins. Are they a powerhouse? That depends on the definition, but you can't deny that they've had a successful program, almost year in and year out.

Did I just say that?http://www.digitpress.com/forum/images/smilies/puke.gif

Well when you are in a cush district and region it isnt that hard to get to 600 wins:D

sweetwater is a very succesful football program....we might not be the powerhouse we were is 4a in the 80's and 90's...but we have definitely made noise in 3a.....we have been a powerhouse before and will be again sometime

sweetwater used to play ALOT of powerhouse teams when we were 4a and when west texas football was every bit as strong if not stronger than east texas....

burnet44

4a football is not as strong in West texas as it used to be
a lot of 4a schools have dropped to 3A and districts have been realigned to accomidate dropping enrollments in the West

Its just not the same

That's what I've been trying to get at!!!

I ask a serious football question and get back a bunch of NON SENSE!!!

My definition of a power house school is one that has been a strong contender (i.e. has playoff wins) over a period of five years or more. Four years or less, and it could be a good crop of talent. Five years or more, and it's a program because nobody from the first year is on the team in the fifth.

True enough. There has been a steady decline for the past 20 years. But from the mid 80s back, it was as tough as you would find anywhere, and tougher than most.
But I do believe it's finally on it's way back. But it'll still take a few years yet. Only time will tell.

I do to a point but that would be a "current" power house i.e. Sealy of the 90's. No one would say they are a powerhouse now.
So you might have two definitions. A perennial powerhouse and a current one.

My personal Powerhouse status rules are this

10 years of dominating football..meaning year in and year out going 3 rounds deep( two titles AT least...have to almost always win district OR

5 years with a crazy like record( example SLC 80-2) and multiple State Titles

Anything else can be considered regional only powerhouses or just really good programs

I could go with that...

How about 126 and 5 since week 8 of 98 with 3 years in 3a plus a mountain of 3a scheduled in pre district. Titles and a 3a runner up with two trips to area in 3a (3 rounds deep).

I'd probably consider any team listed below as a "powerhouse" from the respective time period they are ranked. Any team that breaks 100 wins in any 10 year period does it for me. Sorry the 2000's aren't up to date but the rankings aren't very different when you add in 2006 and what's been played out of 2007.

Both Celina and Southlake Carroll got their 100th wins since 2000 in the past two weeks. Celina actually did it first with their win on Sep. 14th.

Only a handful haven't won state titles (Callallen, Arlington Lamar, Childress) but despite that I would still have no qualms about including them

Wimberley's VB team, has won 5 of the past 8 state championships, probably the most dominate VB power this decade in 3A, definately a powerhouse.
