Who do you think???
I give it to Mr. Jordan Shipley down in Burnet only because he is playing both sides of the ball unlike Stephen McGee.

Caleb Hanie, Baylen Laury. But all depends on how far into the playoffs they get.

I would have to say that the early nod would go to Shipley. But you never know!

A long shot might be the Daingerfield Q.B./F.S./Kicker/Punter. He is going to be fun to watch this year.

I know we're predicted to do little and MVP's don't come from schools that don't, but.......

We have a 6'4", 225 FB/MLB named Ryan Bradford that is 4.3 runnin, almost 400 lb pressin manimal that I expect to have 125+ tackles and 1,500 yards rushing while blocking for Tauren Lagway who is projected over 2,000 yds. Ryan was on his way to both of the tackles and rushing numbers last year, save and except for the fact that the coach at that time only allowed play on one side of the ball, not both. The coach this year isn't of that mind and plans to turn him lose the entire game.

My question is: if a man like him could turn the 125+ tackles and 1,500+ rushing yard numbers, while blocking for a 2,000 yd man in an I, would those type of numbers qualify for MVP, in your mind? Or do you think the MVP will just be for a 2,500 yd rusher or 3,000 yd passer alone? Just curious.

Think of what MVP means. Now the McFarlin kid from Daingerfield is a returning leader in points scored by a kicker, he averages about 38-42yds a punt, he had 4 to 6 INT's last year, I don't know how many tackles(alot), and 700 yds rushing in 8 games, 300 yds passing as a part time Q.B.; and his team got beat in the state semi's. This year he will probably rush for a 1,000, pass for a 1,000, do all kicking duties, and have who knows how many INT's;(AND TACKLES). Heck, the only thing the kid can't do is hold his own kick's. OH, his team will do well again!!! I left out how many total points he'll score.

Trojandad those are pretty impressive numbers. I would say those are MVP caliber, but you know as well as I do that the sportwriters, who really don't know jack about these kids, vote on these things.

Andrew Hines of Gilmer, pictured at left, played only the last three quarters against Daingerfield in bi-district last season, because he had had arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus only 12 days earlier.

Still, he made 126 yards on 13 carries. However, when healthy, he is a threat to go all the way every time he touches the football. This photo is from the first day of practice on Monday, Aug. 4. Note he is still wearing a brace. If he is 100 percent and our passing game opens up his running game as planned, he very well could be the 3A MVP.

Anyone that has played against Kennedale should know about Rex Harper. The most explousive and exciting man on the feild and he plays on both sides of the ball (CB,RB).

Gilmer Buckeye,I agree with you and I am also bias toward Hines.Do you still play?I also agree with Trojandad about his star, yes those are MVP numbers to be putting up.Trojandad, still looking to see you this year ,hopefully in teams competion but surely at one of your games maybe on some Thursday night.I was in your fair town on the 1st of August on business for my daughter.

Old Dragon, even when I played, I didn't play, if you know what I mean. I lettered, barely.

I peaked in the eighth grade when I caught a 2-point conversion pass with one hand to beat Gladewater, 8-6.

I guess I would more appropriately be called "Old Buckeye."

I forgot to add that Hines is an excellent defensive player as well. I think he made all-district on defense as a sophomore back in District 16-3A in 2001. If I were Coach Traylor, though, I'd use him sparingly on defense this season.

BTW, are you a Bruce Dragon by any chance?

I am a Bruce Dragon converted to a Buckeye by default of childbirth, two to be exact.I have learned to love it.I am just a fan of high school football after our season is over.

I would think that this is a little premature at this point, to try to pick the projected MVP....About the 4th or 5th game of the year, is the time to start to see the cream rise to the top...I think most folks are interested in teamwork instead of isolating who is the best player. Why, the linemen that open the holes can have such an influece on the performance of two different players(of actual equal skills), from two different teams- to an incredable extent.

If it were too early to talk about it, Matthew would shut down the board for the summer.

Besides, Campbell talks about it each year much earlier than this.

And besides, I think it's the school with the best PR man in their athletic department that accomplishes all state and MVP awards. Recall of the center that Liberty had last year as an all stater as well as the LB that they predict being all state this year are definitely good players but I just missed seeing either of them being among the state's best last year.

Also reminds me of the Ennis 75 team that won 3A state with the state's best defense that year and not one player on the 1st team all state defensive team. They just didn't have the people in place at that time for self promotion. That takes time and $$.

Well i would defentanly go with the sealy tigers rb. Emeal andrus a 4 yr letterman this yr who rushed for 1671 yds and 18 tds last year. Also set our a school rec. with 302 yds. and 6 tds in a non-dist. game.I really think he will be prime canidate for the mvp this year. Who was also was name the jr. blue chip rb last year and all state 2nd team rb. If we can go all the way to the top he will turn some heads. eek!
