but I am going to ask it anyway!

Does anyone know how to or where to find out how to get into a "sprung" measuring tape to see if it can be repaired?

My boss gave me to one to "fix" that he bought in 1962. I can't even figure out how to open the darn thing to get into the inside mechanism.

These don't normally have springs for automatic retrieval if that is what you are meaning by "sprung". They are the wind up kind...in which case do you wind the spool and it just spins?

I seem to be like crzy on this....it's a matter of principal now!!

He can get one on ebay for around $5 to $10 .... I just want to know how to get the darn thing opened so I can see inside!!

I think they are riveted together underneath the leather cover
