Riley Dodge was off most of the night, kept sailing the ball high. Should of had a TD when his WR was wide open but he had to jump for it.

MNW could of won by more, in the 3rd they had a WR 40 yards downfield without a man within 30 yards of him, the QB never saw him and got sacked.

During the national anthem the MNW crowd held up their gang signs, and one was blowing his air horn. Why am I not surprised though?

How did you like that story about the player who was arrested 2 days before the State Championship and still played in the game - when all the indictments and the investigation was complete - I believe 20 school officials and coaches were "reassigned" Seems there was an assault of a 14 year old girl and the previously mentioned 20 officials "keep it under raps" until someone finally spilled the beans. The current coach was hired in July - just a few days before practice began. He has won a State Championships with 2 different schools. He seemed like the real deal and was trying really hard to get the team headed in the right direction - not just on the field, but academically (sp) as well. They also mentioned that 2 of the players (lineman I think) didn't wanna fly and they said they made a human chain to keep them from leaving the plane lol........

My opinion on the game

SLC played SLOPPY. They had a chance to take the lead at half time, but fumbled the ball on the 6 yardline. That one drive Dodge was out if the back up QB throws the ball a lil bit infront of the WR thats 7 points. Dodge threw another TD strike only to have the WR drop the ball as he was coming down in the endzone. They fumbled once after halftime as they were marching down. The missed FG. In my opinion Miami didnt beat them, they beat themselves!!! Miami scored 3 times from 60 yards plus. The 2nd half SLC's D played good all but one play. If there Offense wouldnt of self imploded this game should of easly went SL's way.

On a side note, I really honestly think the majority of Miamis cramps were BS, I think that was their way of slowing down SL's offense...Ive NEVER seen that many cramps in a game....kinda funny they walked fine after they got over to the sidelines....sounds crazy I know, but I really do believe it. And what was up with Miami's head coach walking all the way out on the field and wouldnt listen to the refs trying to get him to go back to the sidelines?

KTA, I think thats a pretty good assessment of the game. Turn overs, missed receptions, missed field goal, all came back to haunt the Dragons at the end. You just can't have mistakes like this in a game of this caliber. I agree with you on the cramp thing, and the time it took to get them off the field was a joke.

I will say this, the Bulls had plenty of talent and they were hungry. Congratulations to them on the win.

On a personal note, as much as I hated to see a Texas team lose to a Florida team, losing a game may not be a bad thing for SLC. I think everyone needs a wakeup call every now and then, and the Dragons haven't had one in a long, long time. I think many SLC fans (definatly not all of them) have grown so used to not losing that they take the win for granted and it's become boring to them. One thing that has amazed me at SLC home games is the number of people on the home side that leave after the half. I'm told that many of them are band parents, but whats up with that? You know the football team is going to win, so you can leave and get on with your dinner?

It also chapped me at the game last night when we had 3:50 left on the clock and fans started leaving. These were fans wearing SLC garb, not just fans for the evening. Thats almost 4 minutes left on the clock and your team is only down by 8, and I'm thinking, man, have you guys grown so used to winning that the thought of losing sends you stampeding out of the stadium when your down? Man I don't know about you guys, but when I'm at a Burnet game and we're only down by 8 and we've got almost 4 minutes, or 3, or 2, or what ever, man, I ain't going nowhere, there's a good chance something is gonna happen. And if not, I'm gonna be there for the team when the final wistle blows.

Having vented about all this, I need to note that regardless of all the people that feel the need to scamper out of the stadium early, the Dragon's do have an incredible hard core fan base that probably feel the same way I do. They also have an amazing Booster club that are some of the dedicated workers that you will find.

SLC's program is still sound and personally I think everyone is glad this game is out of the way so the team can concentrate on what's really important, persuing the state title. The guys will shake it off and be ok. I have 2 sons in the program and am as proud to be a Dragon dad as I was a Bulldog Dad. Life goes on.:)

Miami had there share of stupid turnovers to.

Dodge played bad most of the night, I don't think he has seen that much pressure ever. Most of his passes were high the entire game, on the dropped TD pass that receiver was wide open and dodge threw it high making the guy jump and giving the saftey time to get over.

It didn't seem like SLC made any offense adjustments in the second half, NW was able to drop another man back in coverage and still get pressure.

The last touchdown from 75 yards was the only one they had that was over 60 yards.

I wouldn't doubt it, a cramp doesn't last 2 minutes. Did you notice that before the half when the coach went out, he was telling his players where to line up to kneel the ball?

I don't know about better, but they different system. It's my understanding that MNW is located in a school district that has 140,000+ students and that transfers within the district are pretty loose. With the academic record of MNW, I don't think these kids are transfering there because of the quality education that they will receive.

There's no question about the talent that MNW brought with them, speed and talent.

I'm just curious VanKampen, since you seem so embarressed about SLC's loss, could your team have done better?

miami nw was just better. They played sloppy to.I thought southlake was very lucky to only get beat by 8.If both teams played there best with no mistakes miami wins easy. That was one bad ass football team.Who knows there might be a few 5a teams in Texas this year that could beat southlake.

Miami played sloppy, because they play sloppy thats their style. They live and die by the "big play". If they played 10 more times SLC would win 8. All talent, no discipline.

Did you notice that it was only the defensive players that were cramping up? Not one offensive player had a problem with it.

I thought it was kind of funny how liberally the MNW coach used up his time outs, but who needs time outs when you have all the cramps you need and a verrrry attentive trainer who has a verrry slow process of working the cramps out in the middle of the field.

I'll say one thing, if shes not being paid top dollar, she should be, some of those guys weren't even limping by the time they got on the sideline.:D

#99 is the only one that actually really was cramping. He was working it on the sideline for about 5 minutes before he came back in the game. The others just went and sat on the bench.

I definetely saw a clash of two cultures in this game, the guy next to me going for MNW hitchhiked part of the way here. On the way out from the game, there were limos parked outside the stadium with SLC flags on them.

i noticed that as soon as SLC started getting some momentum and maybe threatening a score....BOOM...Cramp from MNW.....not to mention the 5 mins. it took for them to relax it out.....
in my opinion it was a tactic to ruin any momentum that SLC would get....very unethical

I didn't notice that many, when MNW scored you could barely hear anything and I was right in the middle of them. 1000 would of made some noise.

i just watched a documentary on mnw on you tube called "year of the bull".........it made me sick to my stomach..the coaches and players shouldnt be allowed to touch a football field. most undisiplined staff and players in the country without a doubt in my mind.....after reading all of yalls post about them possibly faking cramps leaves me without a doubt in my mind that they did. and im sure that they did more "cheating" type of things as well. that video made me sick to my stomach

None of the coaches or players are there anymore and the program is better off. That video is a mute point on the team they have now and if you ever watch the whole video instead of just what that shows on youtube it is a very good movie.

That was made in 2002, those players and the entire coaching staff isn't even there anymore.

How many times is that video gonna be talked about on here?

even though the players and coaches on that video aren't there anymore...it gives you a kind of idea how that program is.......just because the coaches are gone doens't mean the players aren't still in the rythem of that kind of program

i don't want to stereotype anyone or anything...but after seeing the way there fans acted and the way they talked after the game....it wouldn't surprise me if they were all still thugs....i know it sounds bad..but thats just what i come to the conclusion of after the game

Most of the fans were pretty bad, but I was expecting it.

the MNW fans around me were bad at times ..... especially when there was a penalty called against them

but i heard some bad things from 'locals' too

the fans around me were trying their best to get a reaction from the SLC fans....acting wildly about anything that went in MNW favor and looking up into the crowd to make sure everyone saw them.....kind of annoying but most the ppl around me laughed at them for being immature...so the joke was on them

Is it possible that some or maybe even many of the MNW fans were actually folks from the Metroplex who are SLC haters and took advantage of the chance to root for someone with a decent chance to knock off SLC? Just the cynic in me I guess.

I read in the miami herald that 4,000 people from Miami made the trip.

I read also that the ex-head coach Roland Smith was in attendance to. I thought I saw him, before the game in warmups all the players were going by the endzone stands and shaking hands with some guy. I figured he was either an ex coach or a famous alumni. Don't know what Smith looks like though

It's very possible. I am always amazed at the level of resentment that I see directed at the Dragons. Just human nature for some people I guess. But over all, the support that I saw coming from people all over the state was overwhelming.

Just a note from the fiel, My son came home from practice yesterday and said that most of the players that he talked to had commented on how good the MNW players acted on the field. Very quick to help a SLC player up or make a curtious comment. Very little, if any, trash talk during the game.

He was told that MNW had scouted the Dragons and had watched so much film on them, including most of last years, that they pretty much knew all of the SLC signals and had a player calling out the plays as soon as they came in. This is no easy accomplishment, considering SLC changes up their signals for the plays as the game progresses. These guys had been preparing for this game for awhile. You got to gime them credit, they were prepared and came to tend to business.
