Let me start out saying I think the idea of the shirt is cool, but I have a couple of questions.

When did we first start playing GP? What year?

I know on the shirts it listed Sinton three wins to Gp's two, which should now be three. Is that right?

I am an avid Sinton Pirate fan, but grew up in this town and remember when we lost to Gp in the 70's and 80's.

Did we just start counting the games when we beat Gp in their house for the first time?

Not trying to start a big emotional thread, just curious.

Did I miss something?

Sorry if this thread has already been covered. I usually don't do a search before starting a new one. If this has been beaten to death already, then let sleeping dogs alone and terminate the thread.

I've only known the series since it began in 2002. Before that, there was a 22 year gap. As far as the Battle of 181, Sinton and GP are tied for 3, but GP owns the overall series like 18-3, I believe.

All-time record is somewhere close to Gp-21 Sinton-3

I remember the 1977 game. I was in FFA serving cokes and popcorn at the concesion stand/shed back at the old field. I remember thinking that score couldn't be right and wondering if some of the lights were burned out on our side of the score board. Think Ed Marchec(sp) was head coach back then.

Poth and Falls City have their own "Battle of 181". :D

Rivalries don't get any bigger

Robert C. McDonald 12.SEP.07

FALLS CITY — In the world of football, there are many great rivalries. The NFL has many, with the Cowboys and the Redskins listed right at the top. Fans of college football also know about rivalry. While there are again many that could be named, no rivalry is greater, at least in the Lone Star State, than the one between the Aggies and the Longhorns. But what about high school football?

Friday night football showcases some of the greatest rivalries week after week. In just the second week of the 2007 season, two huge rivals came to blows in the small town of Falls City Sept. 7.

The Falls City Beavers and the Poth Pirates have a tremendous rivalry. Whoever wins the game holds bragging rights for the next calendar year. With two communities so closely tied together, calling the meeting between Poth and Falls City just a nondistrict game well that simply would not begin to do justice to this game.

Poth entered into the game coming off a season-opening loss to Crystal City. The Beavers, on the other hand, were entering the game following a 43-0 victory over Kenedy. The previous week, however, meant nothing.

That is the great thing about a rivalry, said one Poth fan. Either team can get fired up and win the game. It doesn't matter who is bigger, stronger, or is predicted to win the game. It can go either way.

Every fan seemed to feel the same way. Each side of the stadium filled with spectators. Once all the seats were filled, people lined up along the fences surrounding the field. Friends, family members, and neighbors looked on as representatives of their small country towns prepare to do battle on a football field and a battle it was.

The Beavers and the Pirates fought their hearts out for 48 minutes. Emotional cheers and cries of anguish filled the air with nearly every play. When a player went down to injury, however, the field, the track, the stands, even the town it appeared, fell completely silent. The mutual respect these teams and communities had for one another was clear to see.

In the end it was Poth that prevailed. In a game marked by incredible defense, the Pirates offense outperformed Falls City. The Pirates will carry the win for another year. They are on top of this rivalry, but the Beavers will remember this game all year. They will use it for inspiration as they move forward with their season.

Falls City has a great football team, said Poth head Coach Jerry Bonewald. I tell everyone that. These boys can play football.

Bonewald attributed the win to his teams speed and conditioning. The Pirates missed the playoffs in Class 2A last year and are looking to return to the postseason. Falls City made the playoffs in Class 1A last year, but want to advance even further this year.

After the teams exchanged handshakes, Bonewald and Falls City head Coach Mark Kirchhoff embraced each other. The good friends had another great battle.

The coaches then spoke to their teams.

I am proud, Kirchhoff told his battling Beavers just before they bowed their heads in prayer. I am very proud of each of you.

No, we didn't just start counting the games when we beat them, but those are the most recent since the series was renewed. If we play them next year they will be in charge of producing a shirt.

I can't even begin to imagine what theirs will look like.

Well, their shirt last year had their helmet shattering ours. For a team that has "our number" in the overall series that was a bit over the top. LOL. Then some of them were upset about us only listing the most recent scores on OUR shirt. o-k-a-y

Didn't bother me much...kinda thought it was missleading though. But those shirts are feel-good shirts anyways.
