Dragons-Bulls a hot ticket

COURTESY PHOTOSOUTHLAKE -- About 15,000 tickets have been sold for this weekend's Carroll-Miami Northwestern football game featuring the nation's No. 1 and No. 2 high school teams.

Plenty of tickets are still available for the game, set for 6 p.m. at the 32,000-seat Gerald Ford Stadium at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Game organizers plan to meet with SMU officials today to discuss parking and traffic plans.

Fans don't want a repeat of the November traffic jam at Texas Stadium, where a crowd of 46,339 watched the Carroll Dragons play the Trinity Trojans, the first game of a playoff tripleheader. The 16-mile drive from Southlake to Irving took some fans two hours, and many missed much of the first half.

Estimating attendance is difficult, but Saturday's crowd could be as high as 25,000, said Dave Stephenson, president of Dallas-based Titus Sports Marketing, which is organizing the game.

Cost

Tickets bought in advance cost $10 for adults and $5 for students; tickets bought on game day will cost $15.

Advance student tickets are running low.

More than 9,000 tickets have been sold at the Carroll school district Administration Center since Aug. 13. The district headquarters has already run out of its allotment of student tickets, so officials started selling tickets at six Carroll schools on Tuesday, a day earlier than planned.

Advance tickets

Student and adult advance tickets are available through noon Friday at Johnson and Durham elementary schools, Carroll and Dawson middle schools, Carroll High School and Carroll Senior High School.

Adult advance tickets are available at the Administration Center, 3051 Dove Road in Grapevine, through noon Friday.

About 3,000 tickets have been sold via the game's official Web site, www.clashofchampions.com. Online sales of will-call tickets -- $13 for adults and $7 for students -- end today.

Online ticket brokers are offering adult advance tickets for three times face value.

Miami Northwestern

Northwestern's alumni group sold the Florida school's entire allotment of 500 adult tickets and is getting 100 more tickets when it arrives, officials said.

The football team is scheduled to take a late afternoon flight to Texas today. The school's cheerleaders and marching band are also traveling to Dallas, and the alumni group is chartering a bus to bring in fans, said John Walker, a Northwestern vice principal.

The Northwestern team also plans to tour SMU and visit the historical Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza in Dallas.

"We don't want to go all the way out there and not take advantage of the opportunity," Walker said.

I'm actually thinking about getting some one to follow we over there early that morning to find a good close spot to leave the "tailgate" vehicle.

Maybe a spot next to a bubbling spring, with lots of shade and wild flowers....:D ;)

Is $10 the norm for a HS non-playoff game or is the price increased b/c of the venue?

Just park on a side street north of frat/soro row...it's free parking and about a 5 minute walk to the stadium.
