are only 6 games under .500 at 68-74 and are beating the Tigers 10-0 in the 5th in the first game of a DH

yeah, too little too late, but nice turnaround with alot of young players

On June 13th, the Rangers were 23-42, nineteen games below .500 and 17.5 games out of first place.

Since that time, they are 46-32, a .590 winning percentage, and have actually gained two and a half games in the standings over the division leader, meaning that they've actually had a better record than the Angels since that point.

A .590 winning percentage for the season would have a team leading every division in baseball except for the AL East (just for comparison's sake).

Very nice turnaround by a team that is full of youth! There is definitely hope for the future!

another interesting stat:

The team's ERA at the All-Star break was 5.08, 29th in baseball.
Post All-Star it's 4.15, 9th in the league.

Overall, it's now at 4.72, up to 21st in the league.

let's be a little more realistic...that will never happen

if the Rangers go 16-3 the rest of the way and the Angels go 4-18 the rest of the way, the two tie for first...

and if the Angles go 0-22 the rest of the way, the Rangers would ONLY have to go 12-7 to tie for first! ;)

Unfortunately that's the same kind of thinking I have to use
for most of the teams I root for.:(

Not real sure I can cheer for a team almost at .500 when supposedly they were contenders at beginning of year, then absolutley tanked it

I know I know young players, coming together and all that

I say they can play well when no pressure, no expectations, but until they prove they can play well when they still have a chance, how they finish this year does not matter

I may be wrong but when you let players get away like
Gary Matthews Jr. and Mark Texiera because you need pitching
and then don't go out and get anybody...

I had no problem letting Mathews go..he had one good year and wanted superstar money

And Tex IMO was more of a cancer than truly known..not that he was purposely a bad guy, but he just never truly fit in

Byrd has been every bit as good as Matthews this year and costs a fraction of the salary.

Tex didn't want to be here, plain and simple. Great player, but wasn't going to stick around regardless of what the team did.

Okay I am wrong.:D

It just seems they never go after pitching. Who was their last
big FA pitcher? Hideo Nomo or Bruce Chen?

Kevin Millwood.

And it's not that they don't go after pitching, it's that pitchers don't come here...last year they made a full-fledged attempt at Roger Clemens midseason, they went after Barry Zito and Daisuke Matsuzaka in the offseason, they would probably have gone after Carlos Zambrano if he hadn't resigned with the Cubs...they go after pitching, but acquiring it is a completely different story.

Kason Gabbard has looked very good, and has been a great deadline acquisition. Matt Harrison was one of the top prospects in the Braves organization, and will probably be on the Rangers in 2009. Brandon McCarthy has clearly outpitched John Danks since early May, so it's not as if the team is void of pitching altogether.

Did Kenny Rogers wear out his welcome there. Detroit fans
seem to like him. Well, except for forgetting how to field the ball
and throwing it to first or third in the WS, he's been pretty solid.

another interesting statistic:

Since the Mark Teixeira deal became official on July 31, the Rangers record is 22-15. The Braves record is 17-20.

The Rangers are now only 4 wins behind the Braves.

pushing the camera man and refusing to apologize to the organization while getting the lengthy suspension pretty much did that.

Hicks has said that unless Rogers is willing to apologize, he will never be welcome here again.

That's kinda what I was refering to. I didn't know he refused to
apologize. Wow!

If I remember correctly, he apologized to the fans but never to the organization for hurting them by being suspended for a month...or maybe he didn't apologize at all...I'm not sure.
