SportsDay football offensive player of the week: Peter Smith, Forney

What he did: Smith led an unranked Forney team to an easy 43-14 win over Frisco Centennial, then No. 20 in SportsDay's Class 4A area rankings.


Peter Smith The stats: Smith rushed for 302 yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries. He scored on runs of 61, 3, 18, 2 and 64 yards.

Who is he? A 5-9, 175-pound junior running back

He said it: "My goal was to get five touchdowns and 300 yards. Now, I've got to set another goal for next week. I just want to do better every time."

Coach said it: "The thing about him is he's consistent and works hard. He doesn't have a large frame, but his legs are extremely strong. He'll run through a lot of tackles." – Kevin Bush

Did you know? Smith's cousin is married to the aunt of former Forney star running back DaBryan Blanton, who runs track professionally for Nike. ...
