At the end of the 1st, Ingleside's up 7-0. Izzy said that the new QB is in and looks great in the pocket, but that RB Green Hill is still in street clothes.

Last report, Ingleside was dominating pretty much every facet of the game, but we'll see if it keeps up.

Still 7-0 at the half. Apparently, the Ingleside offense is starting to have some trouble but the D is holding up.

Haha, go for it.

That's what he told me, too. One penalty costed us a TD on an 80-yard pass to Coffield.

Went to the game tonight. The Defense did well until the 4th quarter. Miller ran a miss direction play twice and scored on both times.

The offense started to get going but with 8 minutes left they seem to just stop playing.

Win is a Win. If the Stangs keep doing this we will be in trouble in the future.

That is exactly what I saw as well. I think the Offense got a little laxed since the Defense had not been letting Miller do much of anything. Ingleside is going to need this bye week to work on some things and to let some of those injuries heal. Tenchur was limping and it looked like something was wrong with his ankle. Mathew Rodriguez looked like he was having ankle problems as well. Also, Hill, is still not even playing. I hope they can recover and have the whole team ready when we play Port Lavaca.

On a side note, the Offense did play better tonight, but we are still commiting too many penalties that are bringing some big plays and touchdowns back. Our Defense is really good. They are flying to the ball carriers and getting the job done.

Mustangs rebuff a late comeback by Bucs to win
By Stuart Duncan (Contact)
Sunday, September 9, 2007

CORPUS CHRISTI — State-ranked Ingleside scored the first 21 points and then hung on for dear life against pesky Miller Saturday night before posting a 21-14 non-district football victory at Buc Stadium.

Mustangs sophomore backup quarterback Brian Hull threw three touchdown passes -- two to senior wide receiver Jesse Martinez -- and Class 3A seventh-ranked Ingleside used a late interception to hold on to the lead and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Despite a valiant fourth-quarter comeback in which running backs Roderick Taylor and Abel Fitts scored touchdowns, the Class 4A Bucs fell to 1-1.

It was a penalty-plagued game, as the teams combined for 22 penalties for 147 yards.

Ingleside also took advantage of two Miller fumbles in the game, which it turned into 14 points. Defensive back Martinez also intercepted a double-pass by the Bucs in the closing minutes to help the Mustangs preserve the victory.

Hull started the scoring by throwing a 15-yard scoring pass to Martinez (who made a finger-tip catch) in the back of the end zone to give Ingleside the lead. Kicker Matthew Rodriguez added the extra point to push the Mustangs' lead to 7-0 with seven seconds remaining in the first quarter.

Hull completed two other passes on that drive -- a 15-yarder to senior wide receiver Michael Scott and a 19-yarder to Ingleside starting quarterback Josh Coffield, who was a receiver on the play.

Bucs senior Bryan Townzen returned the ensuing kickoff to the Mustangs' 44-yard line but Ingleside's defense forced a three-and-out and Miller ended up punting.

The Mustangs also had an 86 yard scoring reception from quarterback Hull to receiver Coffield called back because of an Ingleside penalty for having an ineligible man downfield on the play in the second quarter.

Thus, the score remained 7-0 going into the half, as the Mustangs' defense held Miller to two first downs and 31 yards of total offense in the opening 24 minutes of play.

Ingleside junior defensive back Steve Hamilton recovered a fumble on the Bucs' first drive of the second half at the Bucs' 29-yard line. Two plays later senior wide receiver Scott Holder hauled in a 29-yard scoring pass from Hull. Rodriguez's extra point extended the Mustangs' lead to 14-0 nearly three minutes into the third quarter.

Junior linebacker Greg Timbs' fumble recovery of a Miller punt return late in the third quarter led to Martinez's second scoring reception of the game. Martinez took the ball away from a Bucs' defender in the back of the end zone to complete the 14-yard scoring play from Hull. Rodriguez's extra point gave Ingleside a 21-0 lead with 33 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

After a blocked punt gave Ingleside great field position again, Townzen intercepted a pass at his own 3-yard line to thwart another possible Mustangs' scoring drive.

The Miller senior Taylor (who finished with 118 yards rushing on 13 carries) later broke free for an 89-yard scoring run to put the Bucs on the board. Kicker Alejandro Augustine kicked the extra point to bring Miller within 21-7 with 8:57 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Safety Quinten Spencer intercepted a pass for the Bucs a few minutes later, which led to the junior Fitts' 43-yard scoring run. Augustine's extra point pulled Miller within 21-14 with 5:29 remaining in the game but that's as close as the Bucs would come the rest of the way.
