Are there any plans for redistricting anytime soon?

I'd love to see Sweetwater & Snyder play again.

And knowing how that always goes,
Sweetwater'll never get to play Snyder again.

The coaches could schedule a non-district game if they wanted to

But when you do that and then the UIL puts you in the same
district you ended up with a hole in your non-district schedule.
Then Sweetwater and Snyder would end-up having to schedule
a team 500 miles away because pretty much everyone else has
their schedule full.

Who are the "bubble" teams in 3A currently?

Meaning, who's near the 4A cutoff and who's near the 2A cutoff?

A couple that come to mind (in Region IV) are Hidalgo (possible 4A) and Lyford (possible 2A).

I know La Feria is kinda up there, but not as close as Hidalgo is to the 4A cutoff.

Can anyone else think of other "bubble" teams around the state?

Also, who are potential teams that will drop down from 4A or move up from 2A?

Hutto will move up to 4a.

Everman may drop back...it doesn't seem they have grown much. Depends on the number set forth.

Abilene Wylie could definitely move up...not sure what their # is this year though.

For a great insight on how the UIL conducts realignment go to

Click on the Aug 15 show.
Charles Breithaupt, the UIL's athletic director, is interviewed and desribes how this is done.
Very interesting.
He also said off air that there would not be districts below 6 teams.

That's either 1) a travel nightmare or 2) he forgot that West Texas is still a part of the UIL...

Brownwood could possibly drop to 3A.

5A Abilene Cooper and 3A Abilene Wylie could be district
opponents after the next alignment.(Slim...but could happen)

From the Abilene Reporter News...Link (http://www.reporternews.com/news/2007/aug/28/schools-counting-heads/) :

Two days into the 2007-08 school year, the Wylie Independent School District is showing a 5 percent increase in students while the Abilene ISD's enrollment is down 1 percent.

Wylie attributes its growth to 3,172 students to new housing and young families moving in. Much of the growth is in the younger grades, with high school enrollment staying static at 945 students, said Joey Light, an assistant superintendent.

Funny how that works.;)

From Brownwood's newpaper...Link (http://www.brownwoodbulletin.com/articles/2007/08/30/news/news02.txt) :

Enrollment at Brownwood High School stood at 898 on Wednesday, and she noted that the cutoff between Class 3A and Class 4A schools as the last realignment in February 2006 was 950. Brownwood is currently a small 4A school.

Yikes!

Bowie HS in North Texas is in danger of dropping to 2A. Not sure of what their current number is but they ended last school year under the previous mark that was set 2 years ago by the UIL.
