Heard on radio that Michigan is the 1st team ever in college fb to be in the top 5 & then drop out of the polls in the 1st week! Wow.

Fred Goldsmith (former head coach at Rice & Duke) said App. State (Boone, NC) is the best team in the state of North Carolina: he said they are better than Duke, UNC, NC State, Wake Forest, etc. right now. 2-time defending D1-AA champs. Michigan can attest to that, App. State has speed to burn & lots of moxie. Good story, heck make a movie!

im glad the coaches are using some common sense and basing rankings off of performance and not just winning. in my opinion though, lsu should have moved ahead of usc because usc looked very unimpressive at home against IDAHO while lsu smashed miss state on the road. texas should have dropped out of the top 10 but moving down a few spots was still an improvement from some rankings in the past. michigan dropping out of the top 25 is a joke to me. they didnt come prepared and they got beat by a very very talented team. i think dropping michigan out of the top 25 is a slap in the face to app state and what they have accomplished in the past 3 years.

Good points, but the voters had to make a statement that you can't lose to a D1-AA team, esp. when you are Michigan & top 5. App. State is good, no doubt, but still D1-AA. Michigan lacks team speed & it showed.

But if the polls are truly unbiased, then the past three years should have no bearing on how the voters vote. I don't care who won what over the last three years.

Picture this:

Big ol' Michigan with 85 scholarships & unlimited funding/resources, 100,000 fans at home games, one of top 3 programs of all-time, Big 10, etc.

Appalachian State: little ol' school in Boone (NC), 22 fewer scholarships, D1-AA, 1/10th the funding, limited resources, 2-time D1-AA champs, Baylor grad as head coach in Jerry Moore, etc.

D1-AA beats D1-A power at the Big House, & comes back in final minute to do it! That's a movie folks.

Mobile QB's have ate Michigan up. Everyone from Donovan
McNabb to Vince Young. Michigan recruits to play smash mouth
football. Teams predominately don't play those offenses
anymore.
I honestly think it's time fire Lloyd Carr. Not because of this
loss but because Michigan is 1-5 in games against OSU and
1-5 in their last 6 bowl games.

I HAVE A QUESTION, I HEARD THE GUYS ON ESPN TALKING ABOUT NO DIV. 1 AA SO WHAT CLASSIFICATION IS APP. STATE?

Agreed. Spread teams & anyone with speed/athleticism have owned them recently. They want to play smash-mouth Big 10 football, & if not, they are in trouble.

Can you imagine the Michigan fan websites right now?

I was born at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I know
what the fan websites are talking about.:(

Still D1-AA, but now called "Football Championship Subdivision" to be exact.

because 1-AA sounded like it was a lesser division or something like that right?

From what I understand, yes that's the reason, & it is a lesser division (fewer scholarships, less funding, smaller budgets, etc.) so there's the hypocrisy. Weird deal to me.

I think so but others may know more. To me it's all names anyway. I think the name change was more for confusion purposes (D1-A vs. D1-AA) than anything else.

BCS is still D1-A teams only, that is what matters. D1-AA teams play in their own divisional playoffs.
