It will be on several times in Sept, 2007, and you can check your tv guide for it but one of the times it is on this channel is Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at 7 P.M. This is a great western and shouldn't be missed. It is in beautiful color and was filmed in Oregon in 1955. The main plot is Douglas leads some settlers into Oregon and of course there is Indian trouble because of greedy white men. Don't be fooled by the title because it is politically correct and presents the Indians in a good light.
Kirk Douglas is great as is the rest of the cast. It includes Elsa Martinelli as the Indian Chief's daughter that Douglas falls in love with. Also a young Walter Matthau (who was to become a great leading actor) is great as one of the greedy white men that risks the lives of the settlers for gold as well as his partner Lon Channey, Jr. who not only is good as a villain but provides some humor with Douglas. Diana Douglas is also one of the widow settlers who is going to Oregon to settle with her young son. She was actually Douglas' wife from 1943 to 1951 and is the mother of famous actor Michael Douglas. She appreared in many movies and television series in her career. The fact that she is in this movie indicates that though divorced Kirk and her remained friends. In this movie one of the sub plots is that she becomes romantically involved with Douglas in the first part of the movie until Douglas meets the Indian Chief's daughter and Douglas is replaced in Diane's love interest at the same time by one of the single settlers, Alan Hale, Jr (later the skipper on Gilligan's Island on tv). Elisha Cook Jr. is the photographer and Ray Teal is Sam Morgan. Character Actor Hank Worden plays two roles as Crazy Bear and a guardhouse jailer.

This is a good movie to not be missed. Enjoy!
