73rd meeting. Began in 1920. Officiating in Okla. is traditionally suspect in this game. Vernon gave the worst defeat in series history last year, but only because Altus had switched to a spread offense after years of running the power I. They got the hang of it as the season went on and made the OK 5a playoffs. I suspect this will be a tough game across the river. Their jv beat us 17-14 last night and their freshman team routed us. I will never forget my soph. year we took 16 players up there for a jv game and they had over 70 players on jv and beat us 64 -0. I felt like I had been beaten and robbed. The next week we played 1a Petrolia's varsity with 14 players (two got hurt vs. Altus) and beat them 65 - 0. (Petrolia had been basketball only) It was the first football game ever for Petrolia.

When I was a Senior in HS(2005) my brother played on the Vernon JV. I remember watching them play in Altus, and Altus had like 60 players to our 30. Our coaches said because in Oklahoma players are allowed to play 6 quaters. Therefore, they play some of their Varsity (mostly the 2nd team) to warm up for the big game the next day.

Altus is 5a? That is a tiny little town. Good job Lions.
