As some of you may already know, my wife and I are in the process of building a new house. They offer Verizon FIOS in our new neighborhood, but it seems pricey. Does anybody know if you have to have a landline for FIOS? Since they run their own cables, it would seem like you wouldn't need a phone line. But if you buy their phone line and internet, it's like $80 a month, and we don't even use the landline.

We've been with ATT for the last year, and they raised our rates so that we're now paying more than $80 a month now for their internet and landline, but it used to be like $40 (they have an exclusive agreement with our apartment, so we're basically screwed).

You shouldn't need a landline, they run all their stuff through fiber optics.

That's what I thought, but I didn't know if they require a home phone number for billing or for setup or something.

You dont have to have a land line to get fios in your house. They run a fiberoptic cable to your house. The internet costs:

39.99 for 5 mb download and 2 mb upload.
49.99 for 15 mb download and 2 mb upload
179.99 for 30 mb download and 5 mb upload

right now they have deals goin on that if u sign up in the circuit city you get $150 gift card to circuit city instantly. You also get your first month free and next six months (months 2-7) $10 off. t first month free and next 6 months only applies for the 39.99 and 49.99 not 179.99

they also have a deal called the triple play where u get the 39.99 internet, premium TV package and land line for $99.99 + tv boxes.

that sounds great! I can't sign up until Nov-Dec, so I hope that those deals are still going! Do you have to sign up for the higher speeds to get the circuit city gift card deal?
