I don't know if Robinson's team will be a lot better, but I don't think they will be a lot worse.

Kitchens (last year's QB) loss will not hurt as much as some think because he is being replaced with a QB with similar skills.

The downside for Robinson is that it usually takes their offense several weeks to fire on all cylinders. Timing with this offense is always an issue this early.

I think it will be a better game than last year's, but I'd much rather see this later in the year.

Robinson' offense sputters this early in the season and Celina returns an experienced backfield from what I've read.

Celina wins 34 - 21.

I hope I'm wrong.

That would be the only logical answer.

After watching tonight's scrimmage, I feel better about Robinson's team this year, although the competition may have been suspect.

The QB performed as advertised in the "game like" scrimmage. The O-line also performed well. The running game may actually improve over last year.

The biggest surprise for me though was the defense. In 4 quarters consisting of 20 minutes with no clock stoppage they allowed 1 first down.

The offense scored a TD in every possession but 1, where they fumbled inside the 5 yard line ( 9 out of 10 possessions).

After watching 2 scrimmages, I still believe this team will be as good as last years and may very well surprise people, just as they did last year.

With that being said, I still think Celina wins this game. I just hope Robinson can stay close.

Kids did look ok tonight
and its a different team than last year

Its non-district
but a game is a game
kinda like last year
got beat
but came back and played 15
It wont make or break a season
A win would be nice
A loss with injuries could be bad
Kids will play hard
aint like its a semi-final game lol

I voted Celina because I am a homer. This will be a good game I think and could come down to a battle of defenses. Will ours be as good as last year? Will theirs be better? We will all know Friday about 10:00 pm. I am with B44 on the injury thing. We lost a senior running back seconds into our second game last year. Sure could have used him. Here's to 2 healthy football teams after the game!

health is a big time determing factor on how far you go
we were basically injury free last year
it was a big factor

Celina's defense is roughly the same, their offense should be a little more consistent, Robinson's defense is about the same and their offense should drop off a teensy bit

based on that,

Celina scores 35, Robinson scores 14

Celina will score a bunch...

that's some big words, saying that kitchens can be replaced that easily

they do have a lot of great players returning, but he was a true talent

I didn't say he would be replaced easily, by any stretch of the imagination.

I said his loss would not hurt as much as some think because there is a talented QB with similar skills.

What set Kitchens apart was his heart and instinct.

Though he was a vital part of the team last year, he wasn't a one man show as some portray. Robinson returns plenty of weapons that were there last year. Most didn't notice.

I've already seen comments like "they've lost too much".

The uninformed poster would think so.

Sorry if my post didn't convey that.

Celina controls this game from kick off to the 12th minute of the 4th quarter! Celina will likely score 40 plus points and Robinson will be lucky to get a second touchdown.

I would say that you do not replace Kitchens that easily. Skills don't matter without heart. He never stopped coming. He was a leader. Look for someone to step up and you may be close to last year but he will be missed. Heart just can't be coached. Then add to the fact that your offense is a teensy bit complicated and timing is an issue and I would take Celina. That plus Celina is traditionally a Defense first team. We take pride in stopping everybody. And the list of teams over the last few years that we have not stopped is impressive.

Liberty Hill (and we kept them down but not stopped.)
Gilmer
Gainesville (when they were state champs).
Daingerfield(lost regional finals.)
Crawford (state champs--we lost in region semi's).
Those are the only 5 losses since week 7 of the 98 season.

Garrison in the 01 championship was also tough but we outscored them but we did not stop them either.

My campus legend i created came from robinson

but anyway,

it will be interesting to see how both teams have changed since the state championship games last year

given that these two teams played 11 combined playoff games and lost by a combined four points in the title games, should be an interesting matchup

I think it will be a closer game this year. I think last year Robinson may have taken Celina a little lightly as they were just coming up from 2A and Robinson was a bigger school. I don't think that happens this year. Both teams are coming off State finals which give them extra games and weeks of extra practice for the younger players to prepare for next season.

Next season is here and this should be a good test for both programs early in the year to see what they need to work on for district and hopefully beyond.

That's me right there! Go up the first set of stairs at the end of the tunnel on the far left. I am sitting right there where I can stretch my bad knees at the top of the stairs to the right of the tunnel in the orange shirt.:D I will most likely sit there again.

We could all meet in the right endzone if you are sitting in the home stands at the half if you like. That would make it the left endzone from the visitors stands for all the blondes out there. :D I think we can get there, I am not positive though. Pennington is pretty user friendly as far as victory lines go.
