Venetian is a very scenic place...i thought Bellagio was a little to uptight...but thatz just me...MGM is an old personal favorite because my dad is a VIP but Venetian would be my choice

I'm guessing not more that $150/night, but the Mrs. will weigh in on this too ....

$450/night is a little steep for a room to sleep in :p

Mandalay Bay is nice but it's at the end of the strip.
Bellagio is a good hotel too.
I have stayed at the Hilton, Mandalay Bay, Bellagio, Ceasers, and Paris hotels. All in all they were all good, but you really are only in your room for the evening. The rest of the time you're out on the strip, etc....
So, I would go for the best deal and don't forget places like Bally's or Treasure Island... maybe not as nice as the other places but still right on the strip.
Another suggestion... The Embassy Suites, near the convention center. Free cook to order breakfast, very nice rooms, usually less expensive than the strip and you can just catch a short cab ride to the strip.

Stayed at the Luxor for $95.00.

Harrah's is my suggestion.
It's less expensive that the High End places, but right next to, or across the street from ALL of them, and right in the middle of the Strip.
Wherever you stay, talk with the hotel about their Limo service. My wife and I went last month, and a Limo ride from the airport to the hotel was $45, as opposed to a $25 transfer, or cab ride....Alot nicer, for not that much more $!!!

Last fall I booked through Travelocity at the Imperial Palace while traveling through on business. Travelocity and Imperial Place screwed up the reservation so I had to wait an hour while they corrected the problem. Got put in a suite for $65/night...of course I was only there that night....

last time i stayed at Bellagio, i got a $150 per night rate and since it was an anniversary they gave us a free lake view upgrade. Madalay Bay is best if your going for summer and you can get a regular room for less than $100. or get a fancy shmancy room at Thehotel @ Mandalay and use the Mandalay Bay pool area. whatever you do, go to each hotel's website and sign up on their guestbook. within days, you will get discount offers thru email. Caesars is way too pricey for what you get. but very nice. definately over 150.

also mandalay isnt that far south since the strip has grown so much. it has monorail accesss to luxor and mid-strip Excalibur.

and venetian is too cheesy. Bellagio is NOT snooty at all. it may have that impression. but i always renta dodge neon and they treat me like a king.

Alot depends on your type of trip and if you are getting a car. If you plan on sight-seeing and no car, something in the center of the strip would be perfect. Most of the casinos at the end of the strip offer some good rates, but they will require more walking. The end toward downtown is not as nice or the safest part of town. The huge mega casinos are nice, but it takes more time going in and out. If you just want to stay in one place, they would be fine. We just stayed at the Imperial Palace, great location and very affordable prices. One of the older casinos, but not very luxurious . It was next to Harrahs, and kind of in the center of alot of the Vegas night life.

Check the websites of each casino, sometimes they offer some great deals. Certain days of the week can be very expensive. We ended up getting a car which allowed us plenty of freedom to go all over Vegas. Valet parking is free and the normal tip is about two dollars. Eating breakfast at Paris or cruising to the Hard Rock Casino for their $7.77 steak/shrimp special (not on the menu) was no problem at all, plus going to all the shows was a snap. Those casinos aren't as close as they look!

One good tip: check out the local Vegas magazine (usually in all the casinos) for some great money saving coupons. We found several 2 for 1 shows, which saved me a couple of hundred dollars.

I love Bally's. Here's why.

First off, remember what someonesaid earlier; its basically a room to stay in. The points to focus on are 1) not super shady (which is why I didn't enjoy Harrah's, just my opinon), and a decent location. Bally's has all of that. When you think of Vegas, your first thought isn't "ooooh bally's" is it? Prob not, which means it isn't packed--we stayed there for new years and it didnt' feel too crowded at any time. Plus, its connected via underground to Paris (which is my favorite casino), and its on the square of the flamingo, caesar's & bellagio. Its awesome. Everything's close, and it had very reasonable pricing. I believe I upgraded our room and still only paid like $140 on a saturday night. We ate dinner somewhere outside the hotel, roamed the casinos, and had a convenient central location to meet up at.

Bellagio and Caesar are classic places to go (and you'll pay more because of that). MGM is ok, but wayyyy huge and you have to take a cab almost everywhere. Mandalay is gorgeous, but seems pricey (never stayed, want to). Bally's is reasonable, nice, great location, strong drinks, etc.

Hope it helps.

if u wanna stay on the strip the excalibur is pretty nice...not too expensive and u still are close to mgm, luxor, new york new york, etc......

if ur looking to save money stay somewhere off the strip. there r several new nice hotel/casinos off the strip that r top notch.

if i ever go back thats what id do. save money by staying somewhere away from the strip and u still can do everything that anybody else can do that stays on the strip.
