Do you remember where you were when you heard Elvis died??

Me and my brother and sister were laying in the living room floor playing Monopoly when it was the "Breaking News" on TV.

I was fishing with my grandfather at Lake Corpus Christi. We heard it over the transistor radio that we had with us. I was 9.

I turned 35 in July, does this mean this doesn't apply to me?

Was a 21 year old junior in college. Student teaching, working, trying to finish.
Reminded me of "the day the music died"
A real sad day.
But he had changed so much from the kid in the movies and the rockibilly guy on Ed Sullivan. It was kinda like he was 3 different guys. The singer, the actor/singer, the bloated old singer.

Favorite songs-Suspicious Minds-In the Ghetto

I was only 7 years old so I really didn't notice...I think I remember the band KISS from that era more than I remember anything about Elvis.

I guess I was really too young to remember, but my mother has told me that my aunt was babysitting me and called her crying hysterically. My mom, not being able to understand her, thought something had happened to me and rushed home. Bout strangled my aunt for it. LOL.

I was at work. I told a couple of co-workers that he probably OD'd on drugs and one of them got pissed off. He didn't think that Elvis would do drugs. DUH. What can you expect when a person can't live any kind of a normal life because of their celebrity. I had always thought that he prolly did.

Unfortunatly he was so bloated I figured the same.
What a waste of a great talent.
He is still selling today.
Shows how big he was.
Just the fact of this thread shows that.
30 years
he would be 72
kinda hard to see him at 72
all the ones that died young never get old

James Dean
Marilyn Monroe
Elvis
Lady Di

they all look like that forever

I was a college student working that summer for a book company out of Nashville. I, along with others in a group, were selling books door to door. Three other guys and I were located in a part of SW Virginia, which is coal mining country and very back woods. I found out about it from one of the customers I was trying to sell to. At one house I visited, there was a teenaged girl who was so over come by it that she would just sit by her record player listening to Elvis records and cry her eyes out. Very sad.
