Chapel Hill's Phil Castles, "And he's gone, just like that."
The Chapel Hill ISD Athletic Department confirmed one of its high school football players, Derek Timms, was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Tuesday. Another player, Marquis Warren, is hospitalized. Earlier reports indicated another person was also killed, and we're awaiting further information from the Department of Public Safety. The accident happened around 5:00pm on Tuesday on FM 850 near Overton.
Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Phil Castles and other members of the Chapel Hill athletic department met with the football team this morning.
Castles spoke with me on Wednesday afternoon, "Derek had such a tremendous off-season, he came back bigger, stronger, faster, and he was going to be such a force for us...and now, all that is gone, just like that."
Chapel Hill's scrimmage against Gilmer this weekend has been cancelled.
The Bulldogs won't practice again until next Monday, Castles adding, "we just don't want to be out there right now."
