Ok - I know one of the regular posters is an English major (sorry, I forget which one) and I could call my mom (who's got 29 years Senior English teaching experience but she'd give me WAY TOO MUCH INFO)

which is correct - intersquad or intrasquad? I found the below but I am more confused than I was before lol

"Inter" denotes "among" or "between"
"Intra" denotes "within"

well - it is among and between the same team - and it is also within the team??

it depends on the situation that you are describing. If two teams from a different area are playing, it's "intersquad". If the team is playing itself, it's "intrasquad".

Example: Interleague play in major league baseball is play BETWEEN the American League and National League.

The Cowboys' intradivision games consist of their matchups against the Eagles, Redskins, and Giants, since those games are "within" the division.

If the Cowboys scrimmage themselves, it's intrasquad.

If the Cowboys scrimmage the Broncos, it's intersquad.

Sorry, that was probably longer than what your mom could have told you, but I just wanted to make things "clear as mud" for you!

From the Senior English teacher / softball coach:

intrasquad -- between members of the same team.

Exactly. Depends on the context & who are the participants.

Interstate 10 = goes between states

intrasquad = same team scrimmaging each other

You get the idea.

As a high school English teacher and former newspaper editor I can tell you that it is intrasquad.

thanks all.....
since we're talking grammar - does it drive you'll (the English teachers and editors) nuts when you hear things like the following?:
"me and him went to the store"
"her and I are best friends"
"he don't talk too good"
"him and me did that"

I NEVER learned to diagram a sentence. :D
