The Lubbock Western Little League All-Stars will be playing on ESPN tonight at 7:00pm for a trip to The LL World Series.
The team is unbelievable. They have outscored their opponents something like 330-15. Good luck to this outstanding group of boys.

COOL!! I was just looking for that thread. I was wondering how they had done!!

Watched a little bit of the GA/AL game last night. Too funny. That pitcher from AL gave up a HUGE HR and the expression on his face was GREAT!! Kinda disbelief and just a wicked little grin - loved it! Then, the other pitcher gave up a 3 run shot and his expression - not so good.

There will probably some long balls tonight also. Lubbock has hit about 75 home runs so far.

Just heard from a friend, he said the pitcher was throwing 85 consistently?

I noticed a shirt that said "Sweetwater All-Stars" on some guy in the stands. Didn't see his face. Anyone from Sweetwater know who it could have been?

I umpired out in Lubbock before I came home for the summer and in calling for all the leagues, including Western, I don't think I saw ANY kid bringing 85, much less 70. Now granted, I'm sure I didn't see all the kids play, but really, if there was a kid throwing that fast at that age, I'm sure we would've heard about it at one of our weekly meetings. Hell, who knows though, they might have kids on steroids before they've even hit puberty.

That is an awful thought! :(

This kid, according to ESPN, was throwing the equivalent of a 100mph fastball.

He is 5'9" and the other pitcher was 5'10" and he threw just as hard!!!

The Lubbock pitcher was consistant at 78-79 mph.

Ya, he was upper 70's the whole game. He did hit 79, his hardest of the night, on the very last pitch to strike out their pitcher/best hitter. The announcers said he has hit 81 before. His curveball is just as impressive though. I don't see how any kid at that age can hit off of him.

Yea his MLB equivalent was around 98-99.

Saw part of it & kid was nasty. Let's see how he transitions to the big field before we annoint him the next big thing. I have seen way too many fall by the wayside due to early development, overuse, injury, lose interest, etc. He definitely is talented with a huge upside.

Garrett Williams was his name I believe. LHP throws hard with movement & had a big breaking ball. Hope his elbow holds up throwing a true breaking ball at age 12. Time will tell.

The one thing to follow is these kids pitching futures.
Some of the LL stars never throw much harder than what they are throwing now.
Remember that kid from Louisville, KY about 3-4 years ago? He was dominating in the LL world series, then I read an article about him in SI and he was just an average high school pitcher.
