The homer in me says Lampasas. When we were in 3A from about 84 through the 93 season we were in the playoffs more often than not (Believe we went 5 years without losing a district game in the mid to late 80's). Had a state semis appearance in 86 in Region I (Lost to state champ Jefferson) and another quarterfinals appearance in 93 in Region IV. Basically we could compete and win quite a bit. We were one of the most entertaining teams in the state in any class towards the end of the 3A run when Rod Hess (The guy was a spitting image of Albert Einstein) was there running the run and shoot and setting all kinds of state passing records in the process.

The harsh reality that is 4A has not been that fun aside from 94 when we upset state ranked Austin LBJ in the playoffs and had two other appearances in the playoffs. If Kempner would get their act together and build a darn high school eventually the Battlin Badgers could drop back down and be a playoff team immediately in region IV or Region I.

The non-homer in me wants to see Marlin return along with Newton and Tatum. :)

Refugio, George West, Rockport-Fulton, Rice Consolidated, Odem & Hebbronville all had good years when they were in AAA

Sharyland had some big-time battles with PI back in the 80's

I would love for Van Vleck to be in 3A, and I'd like Boling to get some sudden growth and move up as well. Then we could get Brookshire, Columbus, and Stafford out of the district and have Columbia, Sweeny, Wharton, Needville, Sealy, Boling, and Van Vleck. That'd be fun.

i have this feeling that wharton will move up to 4a at some point in the next 10 yrs. wharton is growing pretty steadily. tatum would be interesting in 3a again.

Depending upon the numbers the next realignment, that is a very distinct possibility. If they are moved back to 3A, expect the return of the KC Chiefs as a pre-district game. :D

I saw that butt kicking at the Gopher Bowl
Jefferson had 8-9 DI signees
yeah they were good
I was on the sideline taking pictures
just hanging out on the badger sideline
The Coach at Chilton went to Lampassas and played in that game
The OC Wigg is hc at Comfort and still throwing it every play

I think they will stay up
Big new school built for more

I heard they've lost quite a few kids since then. Of course, that could've changed, especially since school is still a bit off.

I think Forney did just fine in 3a after Blanton left.

and I'm glad you missed the whole point of the thread, there wouldn't be 2 high schools if Forney was 3a again anyways.

We were the only team the entire season to not allow them to score in the first quarter. The score at the half was 22-9, HP had a little to much depth for us.

Fairfield wishes they were 2a so they wouldn't go 1-9

Unless Marlin and Falls County get an influx of industries, I do not thinkl the Bulldogs will be seeing the 3A ranks next re-alignment, unless they drop the numbers. The current high school enrollment is 365 and the cutoff for 2A for the last re-alignment was 410.

If this keeps up Marlin will not even be the largest school in their current district and there are a lot of Marlin fans that want the Dawgs to return to the 3A ranks.

I wish Forney was back...#2 in state every year was better than not making the playoffs at all!

Sorry Phil if Taft and Odem are your big rivals
you aint very good

Odem (14) 1967,70,73,82,89,90,91,94,95,2001,02,03,04,05
Taft (16) 1935,49,50,51,52,57,58,68,76,82,83,86,89,90,93,200 6

face it the 2 playoff system has watered down the playoffs

look at the people making the playoffs now
2 examples are above

1998 2 team playoffs started

Odem of 14 times 5 were after 1998
Taft of 16 times 1 was after 1998
Taft hasnt been good before 2A or 3A
Taft has had playoff droughts of 13 years, 14 years, 10 years

Add the drop to 2A and you can see what a BIG rival it is lol
When did they drop? 2000?

Get Cuero that would be a big rival

no...I pressed charges.

1 of them got a plea bargain for ratting out the other two...the second one disappeared and still has a warrant out (I'll be contacted if they ever find him) and the third one got the full brunt of it since the other two aren't paying...all they're doing is paying the cost of my medical bills. But since insurance paid for most of the bills, the money they send me is basically mine to do whatever I want...I'm pretty sure that last check was the last one, because usually it was only $50 every month or two.

and I think they all got like five years probation or something like that.

I'd mention Marlin, but the chances of Port Isabel getting to play Marlin again are slim to none.

However, with Van Vleck, the possibility of a Port Isabel / Van Vleck game is much more realistic. Besides, the loss to Van Vleck was waaay back in 1980, an old Tarpon wound that has yet to heal. My brother was on that 1980 team, and I'm sure he'd love to see Port Isabel get some payback from that 1980 loss, even if it's nearly 30 years later.

Thanks for the post Burnet.

Newton has a heck of a program.

I did see one team on the 2a list that I am glad isn't in 3a anymore.

Hearne.......

Man they were bad when they were in our district.

Merkel...so I don't feel like an idiot for calling them a 3A team the other day...

Childress..... Vernon and Childress used to be a blast. Vernon usually dogged them but every now and then (rarely) they would sneak one from Vernon

It is good seeing Navasota in 3A; however, I wish that sometimes we were back in 4A...I Love the games against Waller, Conroe Oak Ridge, Willis and most of all, the rivalry with Brenham; but I guess after the 52-29 beating that we gave them, they had enough...With Hempstead going to 2A, it takes away the fun of playing them in district when it really counts. So, I would love to see Hempstead back in 3a before Navasota goes back to 4A in about 4 yrs.
