ran 6-7 miles on monday and now the side of my foot, just underneath the ankle bone protruding from the outer side of my foot hurts

for some reason it is only the side of my foot, and hurts only when i am walking

any ideas on what it could be

given that Marines do a lot of running, this is keeping me out of a lot of action

played racquetball today and it wasn't too bad

it seems to be walking and running (and coming down stairs) which aggravates it

Who-dun-it!!?

I understand
1. make sure you have good arch support
2. find out what kind of foot you have wodth, size, flat, arch
3. go have some shoes fitted by someone who has a clue
4. you probably have pronation-foot turning outward
5. asics has some good ones
6. wear some type of ankle support or tape it
7. if you tape it make sure u you do a heal lock
most have no clue about this
8. if you use a brace make sure you get a good one not just foam
9. ice it after running
10. flexibility is an issue hamstrings have to be flexiable along with the calf
11. go to a real foot DR. for diagnosis

here are some good shoes

Running Shoes - Maximum Pronation Control
Brooks Beast (M/W) widths si
Brooks Ariel (W) widths si
Mizuno Wave Renegade 3 si
New Balance 1010 (M/W) widths
New Balance 586
Asics Gel Noosa Tri
Asics Gel Foundation 7 (wide fit)

Pronation is the medical term that refers to the rolling-in or flattening out of the foot's arch, which can result in flat feet.

I do step aerobics 4x a week, lift wts and always wear a brace

hope this helps

thanks for the vote of confidence, DuStud!

and thanks B for the info---i guess i should know better, since i sold shoes (some orthopedic ones) for four years

i have run for a while with the shoes i have now, but i think i just overdid it running, since we ran 15 miles in 3 days, not normal for me

i'll just keep stretching it and icing it this weekend

seriously now... a good massage is always good for it. as said above, good running shoes make all the difference in the world (i really like new balance)
