Taser Won

Scott Olsen officially made the jump from "clubhouse malcontent" to "threat to society." He started last night's game for the Marlins, just days after returning from a two-game suspension for fighting with a teammate. He had a triumphant return by picking up the win, but his night (and his reputation) took a turn for the worse when he celebrated by drinking and driving followed by an impromptu kicking contest with a few police officers. Needless to say, the police won, though in my book they kind of cheated considering they used a Taser gun:

Olsen, 23, was arrested in the Miami suburb of Aventura, where a police officer clocked him going 48 mph in a 35 mph zone and attempted to pull him over at about 3:40 a.m., police Lt. Michael Bentolila said.

The officer used the police car's lights and siren to get Olsen to pull over in his Infiniti sports utility vehicle, but he did not stop, Bentolila said. Olsen continued to drive about one mile, running a stop sign before stopping at his Aventura home, Bentolila said.

Olsen then exited his car and sat down on a plastic chair in front of his home, Bentolila said. When backup officers arrived and tried to arrest him, Olsen resisted by kicking at the officers, which led to him getting stunned with the Taser, Bentolila said.

Olsen then failed a field sobriety test and refused an alcohol breath test, Bentolila said. He was taken into Miami-Dade County jail and booked on charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest with violence and fleeing and eluding a police officer, Bentolila said.
Needless to say, Olsen should expect something a bit more stiff than a two-game suspension this time around, especially in the wake of Josh Hancock's senseless alcohol-related death in April. It's also worth pointing out that Olsen (most likely) didn't start drinking in the team clubhouse -- as the Miami Herald points out, the Marlins banned in the home clubhouse several years ago.

i'll never understand why those who are wealthy enough to do whatever they want and not get caught still manage to be stupid enough to do so?
