Chaparral Steel (CHAP) the second-largest producer of structural steel beams in North America, struck a deal to be acquired by Gerdau Ameristeel (GNA) for $86 a share, or $4.22 billion.

The agreement was unanimously approved by the boards of both companies.
Shares of Chaparral were rising 10.3% to $83.52 in premarket trading Wednesday. The companies expect to close the deal later this year.
Gerdau Ameristeel is the No. 2 mini-mill steel producer in North America.

I worked for Nextel when Sprint bought them out and fortunately all of the approx. 1300 employees at my location kept their jobs.

I'm not saying this is the norm but hopefully all will work out.

Hopefully you have stock options...in most cases when an acquisition takes place employees vest 100% immediately, no waiting to complete the vesting period. Consider the tax impact if you sell them though, if you sell them and gift to children the tax hit is minimal.

I don't think he's been there long enough to accumulate very many shares.

Adidas - What will happen, will happen. Don't worry about it everyday.

I'm too young (read too low on the totem pole) to have stock options. When we were discussing our last raise though...I offered my boss a 40% cut in pay for the equivelent in stock options.

We have a bunch of dept heads and mid-level guys that just became multi-millionaires today based on options though! :(

Heck yesterday...you could've bought options yesterday...sold them today...and roughly doubled your money pretax.

You probably won't see any changes for a while. Hang in there and good luck. Those are stressful times, I've been through it, twice. Both were smaller companies though.

The school wouldn't buy from us directly. They would make plans with a contractor...who then takes bids on the job from various fabricators (those who cut, bend, weld the steel). If the fabricator is big enough...then they buy from us.

I'm thinking you're referring to new bleachers in LH, correct? The two big bleacher companies in Texas are Souther Bleachers and Steel Stadiums...both based out of Graham, TX. We do supply them with some of their materials.
