A 26-year-old soldier from Carthage was killed Friday in Iraq.

Spc. James Lee Adair, a U.S. Army infantryman, was killed in action in Baghdad.

Funeral services are pending at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home in Carthage.

The military has not released details of the soldier's death, according to Adair's mother-in-law, Andrea Nation.

Adair was born Nov. 16, 1980, in Cameron County, and he attended Carthage schools, where he played football.

On July 15, Adair married Chelsea Nation of Carthage. She is expecting their first child in September.

Adair's father, Jimmy Adair of Harlingen said his son believed in the cause and was maturing in the service to his country.

"He was definitely becoming a better adult; he was growing up doing what he believed in," Jimmy Adair said.

Adair is survived by his mother, Risa Adair, of Carthage; a sister and brother-in-law, Amanda and Jason Townsend of the Fairplay community; and his father-in-law, Eddie Nation of DeBerry.
