If you haven't been to Vegas recently, you'll be surprised at all of the new construction going on. This doesn't include the new Echelon project going up in place of the old Stardust (broke ground June 19th) or the new Caesars Palace tower (ground breaking late 07/early 08 expected).

I saw all that construction a few months ago. Seems like the guys handing flyers for "girls delivered to your room" like to congregate there.

I read that Vegas was growing at the rate of something like 10,000 people per month.

You can say that again! I went in May and Vegas is not like the old Vegas. What happened to the cheap rooms and the inexpensive buffets? So many things to see that we actually didn't gamble all that much. A lot of good shows (not cheap), clubs, eating places and plenty of attractions on and off the strip. If you just want to gamble, I suggest going to Louisiana.

A few tips for Vegas:

1. Rent a car (Valet is free). The casinos aren't as close as they look. If you walk, wear comfortable shoes. Some of the mega casinos are a good distance from the street.
2. Lot of good coupons in the local Vegas travel magazine. We got several 2 for 1 shows.
3. Harley Davidson restaurant- Try the meatloaf! Stacks of meatloaf piled on a mound of mash potatos, all smothered in brown gravy.
4. Hard Rock Casino- Lucky's restaurant has a $7.77 gambler special. A steak and shrimp dinner that's not on the menu.
5. Paris Hotel- Try a french crepe or one of the ham/cheese croissants. Nice view from the Eiffel tower replica.
6. M&M store- 4 floors of M&M things

Luxor had a tremendous all you can eat buffet dinner for 9.95 a few years back. Hard Rock has a good restaurant with great sandwiches, sort of a New York deli. Circe de Soleil was fabulous at Caesars. Comps are based on how much you gamble. Most casinos have you sign up for a comp card that the pit boss takes and records your bets and based on that free rooms, shows etc. are comped. They usually get their money one way or the other LOL. Haven't been there in 5 or 6 years so I imagine there have been some changes. I liked the Venetian and Belllagio, especially the Wynn Art Exhibition, well worth the wait in line to see. Cheers.

??? on the tahiti comment.

That article is based on census projections from 2000 to now...so we were talking about slightly different things!

Tahiti Village is another huge resort / casino that is being built in Las Vegas.. I figured you may have seen the commercials on t.v. that have the dude from Step by Step on them.. Anyways you can get 2 free nights in Las Vegas if you are willing to take a 2 hour tour of Tahiti Village and "consider buying a time share"

Tahiti Village is a small property south of McCarren and outside the loop of Las Vegas. It's not something that's being built.

From what I read on tripadvisor...it sounds like a shady little dump full of people trying to force you to buy a timeshare.
