Sammy Sosa deserves to be in the All-star game over Manny Ramierez!

Hunter Pence deserves to be in the All-star game over Aaron Rowand!

Statistical reference for my complaint:

Hunter Pence:

.330 AVG 8 HR 35 RBI 29 R 7 SB (in 25 fewer games than Rowand)

projected out to 81 games like Rowand has played:

.330 AVG 13 HR 52 RBI 43 R 12 SB

Aaron Rowand

.313 AVG 11 HR 41 RBI 50 R 5 SB

Sammy Sosa

.255 AVG 14 HR 63 RBI 33 R 0 SB

Manny Ramirez

.286 AVG 11 HR 43 RBI 40 R 0 SB

I like Hunter Pence and think all-star games are in his near future, but projections don't count. As far as Sosa, now way a .255 batting average should be in the all-star game, Ramirez numbers don't deserve to honor either. Its all about being in the right market though. If Hunter played for New York he would be a household name by now and a shoe in for the all-star game and ROY.

If it's Gary Sheffield and Ryan Howard instead of Ramirez and Rowand, I'm not complaining. But the fact that Rowand and Ramirez are on the team, that means they were chosen as better than Sosa and Pence, and I just don't buy it.

I get what you're saying about projections, and wasn't using them as a basis for my argument. I'd put Pence in over Rowand with Pence's numbers just as they are. Rowand had a hot April and has been cooling off ever since.

I was kind of hoping that Pence would find a way this year, but as long he keeps playing the way he has been then he should be a favorite for next year.

And should have been on the big club much sooner, but had to wait thanks to my former boss & now GM Tim Purpura. Purp is way over-matched by this job & should have stayed working in Player Development. He is nothing but a "yes man" to Drayton McLane who sticks with his guys far too long & it will cost him in the end (Lane, Ensberg, etc.). Team is full of holes unfortunately.
