Let the fireworks begin, Since 2004 i've been posting my very own countdown on the Class 3A's Top Playoff Contenders. Teams who have advanced to the playoffs keeping their tradition alive. In '04 i started off with 35 teams now ever since then it's dropped to 10 in 2006. These are teams who have stayed in Class 3A since 2000 and advanced to playoffs.I've combined all their winning seasons to determine who is number one. In 2005 there were 23 teams alot of these teams didn't return last season due to relignment or failed to make the playoffs. This year's bragging rights goes to the Abilene Wylie Bulldogs which knocked off the Sinton Pirates from the #1 spot in '05 in which the Pirates barely squeaked by to gain the top spot. The Bulldogs where the at #2 and it's there turn to have the spot light this year. Good Luck to all the teams in 2007, and Congrats to those who managed to stay alive another year.

crandall is surprising!

they have tapered off since the turn of the millenium, but they still manage to squeeze into the playoffs every year

wonder if they will rise to prominence again soon?

as I posted about reg 1 and 4
and 2 and 3

we all know Celina would be here but they have been back and forth

my take

01....ABILENE WYLIE....73-19 Region 1 a lot of wins vs reg 1 teams did beat Cuero
02....BELLVILLE....69-19 reg 3 hasnt made final in a tough region
03...SWEETWATER....69-22 see wylie hasnt made a final
04....SINTON.....68-20 1 final lots of wins vs weak reg 4
05....MIDLAND GREENWOOD....63-25 wins vs reg 1 beat a weak bandera team that got killed by burnet
06....CHINA SPRING....59-23 surprising-reg 3 team-less wins vs better teams I figured cameron might make it
07....PORT ISABEL....58-31-reg 4 enough said
08....LA VERNIA....57-22 see above
09....PERRYTON....56-25 see wylie
10....CRANDALL....47-31 I wouldnt have picked them here

The only teams to advance in the State Finals since 2000 are in the top 5
ABILENE WYLIE .....2000,2004
MIDLAND GREENWOOD.....2002
SINTON.....2001

but look at rhe reg 2 and 3 teams
not as many wins because those reg are tougher
as evidenced by 3 finals by reg 1 and 1 final by reg 4
so reg 2 and 3 had 11 finals between them

more wins vs weaker regions
less state finals

per my post

Well let the fuedin begin. I think Celina proved last year that just because we were in 2a before does not mean we cannot compete.

Since 2000.
Celina....... 99 - 5.

3 state titles 2a.
state finalist 3a.

btw over half of those game were played against 3a opponents.

Since the streak began 1998.
Celina....... 123 - 5.

5 state titles 2a.
state finalist 3a.

3 of those five losses were to the state champs for that year.

prominence? they are/have been a solid 3A program, but since Forney left the district is really, really weak ............ and did they ever actually WIN a playoff game? I assume they did but not many .....

Wylie has wins vs 4A Frenship, Aledo (both in 3A and 4A), Everman twice, Brownwood, and others during that time. They've won plenty of games outside of their region as well.

Also, think a little bit more before making statements such as "Reg 2 and 3 had 11 finals between them" while "3 finals by Reg 1 and 1 by Reg 4." His list of teams is only pertaining to teams in 3A that have made the 3A playoffs every year. Not on this list are Everman (2 times from Reg 1), La Grange (2001 from Reg 4), Burnet (2 times from Reg 4), Cuero ( Reg 4), Gainesville (Reg 1 in 05), and Wimberley (Reg 4).

Think before speaking...please...

Sorry, I know for some reason people on this board don't like to throw around giddings, but I think they were worth putting on this list so I will state just a few facts here of late.

In the playoffs 8 of the last 9 years
Semi-finalist in 98 & 01
Quarter finalist in 05 & 06

Giddings has been in the play offs all but one year that this thread speaks of from 00 to 06, w/ as you can see above 2 quarter final births and one semi-final birth. Just throwing this info out there, cause others won't. In the last 25 years giddings has been in the playoffs 14 times, only 4 times before that with one state championship in '51. Giddings in the last 10 years has been a solid playoff contender and made several good runs at a title. It will be REALLY TOUGH this year with a bulls-eye on our boys, but should make another descent run at an exciting year again this year.

I haven't gotten my hands on our record in the last 7 or 10 years, but would like to see it. It would be pretty salty I know, we are not very use to losing here in the past 10 to 15 years.

his post was on the records
they have fattened their records playing in the weaker regions
and look at the teams
as i have posted before
reg 1 has lost a lot of kids
pushing teams into other regions
everman in reg 1
La Grange which has been in reg 3
Burnet which has been in reg 1 and 4 but located in central texas
Cuero ( Reg 4) they are a reg 4 team
Gainesville have been reg 2
Wimberley (Reg 4) traditionally

because areas have lost so many kids like reg 1
it has pushed the region farther west
look at reg 3 taking in 4a schools WOS BC ect
pushing usual reg 3 schools into reg 4

reg 2 and 3 are srtonger than the other regions
you have a few schools in reg 1 and 4 who are decent state wide
but have made good records feasting on weaker competition
thats why there are so many teams on the list from those regions
while 2 and 3 are killing each other to survive
face it
someone from each region will win the region
if you look at the list you would think that reg 1 and 4 were great
but in reality 2 and 3 are much stronger at this time and have been

lost to Bandera in the semis the next week

but

bandera won fair and square
Bellville looked tired
I saw the bandera-greenwood game

neither were in the same league as everman-burnet-forney-jasper-sinton-atlanta

burnet beat bandera 45-14? or something like that in dist that year

if we didnt have a lil fumble towards the end of our loss to greenwood that year....i think we would have won state, and the next year when our stud QB tore his ACL 4 games into the season...sweetwater is bad about having crappy incidents happen:(

I tell you what--that daingerfield team was no joke in 2002, and not just because they ended our streak

Greenwood must have been a monster that year!

that was one physical ballgame--they put it to us, and we needed a touchdown with 7 seconds left just to set up that kick that missed.

That was one of the toughest moments i've seen on a football field, but the applause as our players left the field was one of the better ones

never forget sitting near GA Moore (in his first year back at Pilot Point) and seeing the emotions running across his face (subtely as always, of course, but still there)

Ya know, in keeping with the spirit of the thread I should apologize. We missed the playoffs in 93. So including the years of consecutive playoff appearances that would start the 94 season.

Celina

175 - 17

With 6 state titles
68 game win streak state record.
25 consecutive playoff wins state record.
yada yada yada yada and so on.....
