How many of you are running the

4-3?

Split?

50?

3-4?

What is your choice and why?

3-4. It is a wonderdul defense against the run and the pass. Without changing personnel you can also adjust and get into a 4-2-5 or split look

when you look at the 3-4, you automatically assume that against the run there is only 5 in the box but if coached correctly you are playing the run with 7 and can defend the pass with 8.

Celina runs a 46 look that morphs in and out of a 4 3 and 10-1.
I like the d because most teams simply cannot protect the passer long enough and you stop the run on the way to the QB. Works pretty darn well most of the time. We were a little thin on LB's last year which is what cost us. Year before the whole durn defense was LB's running 4.6. Best D we ever had. Allowed an average of 100 yards per game and 4.9 points per game with 7 shutouts. And a shutdown in the second half of the title game allowing only 36 yards and 0 points.

I like the 3-4 with big linemen and quick linebackers, and alot of blitzing

our signature defense is a 2-3-1 but this past year we ran a modified 3-2 cause it fit our personnel better

What do you think the advantages are of the 4-3 over the 3-4 and vice verca.

If you've got OLB's that can motor, there's not much difference between the 3-4 and the 50. We played a 50 with running ends that had flats/corner pass responsibility.....on the line or backed off depending upon the offensive formation. I guess it was a hybrid DE/OLB scheme.

Got my only career INT that way, only to have the violated QB knock my helmet off when he knocked me out-of-bounds on the return. I tried to blame my loose, rusty chinstrap.....but the boys never did let me live that one down. A stong-side defensive end's helmet taken off by a QB.....for shame!

As an offensive lineman, I always licked my chops against a 4-3. Our tight ends had no problem hooking the OLB's and our outside running game was ON!

The 4-3 might make the inside running more difficult, but, in my opinion, you've got to have some super-stud OLB's to contain the flats and outside game. Also, the inside down linemen of the 4-3 better be able to fight off the trap block. Our guards ear-holed guys on a regular basis. We used to giggle in the huddle when we heard certain plays called 'cause we knew what was about to go down.

A 3-4 still does well against the inside game 'cause the nose tackle changes the tempo on the trap. I like having a big linemen directly over the tackles. This, to me, helps control the battery and gives the linebackers room to move laterally, plug the holes, or run 'em down outside.

Well you never played Celina's d. It is a 4-3 moving around the stunts . A lot of the time it looks like a 46 and sometimes we go 10-1 or 10-1 special or we will occasionally go 26. We stop the run most of the time and put the O in second a bad a lot.
