Prairie View Interscholastic League was a league for black schools and lasted from 1940-1969. It contained 4 classes of schools from A to 4A. It was originally known as Texas Interscholastic League of Colored Schools.

Good topic.

Sweetwater Booker T. Washington HS, won the PVIL 1A track title in 1954.

Greenwood didn't even become a school until until 1972..............so, my answer is NO!

Sweeney might have been there too. In 1967 they integrated and Sweeney became a dream team. The year before Sweeney had reached regional and were expected to be a strong state contender. The black school there was also very good and when they integraded with the black players and the head coach there became an assistant coach with Sweeney they were considered the odds on favorite to easily win the state championship. They did win the State Championship and had a great team but they did have more competition than folks thought. For example they had to hang on to beat San Antonio Randolph 21 to 14 and had several other close games such as Bastrop in which they won 15 to 7 but many that went to the game thought Bastrop lost more because of mistakes. But Sweeney did have a great team and got the title in 2A football that year as expected.
