Yeah.....this is what the first line in the Odessa American said about it:

In an apparent violation of the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Ector County Independent School District board of trustees named Leon Fuller as athletic director following a lengthy executive session during a Tuesday board meeting.

Here is the Story (http://www.oaoa.com/sports/fuller_3831___article.html/board_sollis.html)

4-3 vote is bad. Very bad! There is no way I would take a job with a split vote. You are already in a bad position because all those three have to do is get one more person on the board to side with them and then you are gone.

Might be able to squeeze out two years. Permian should be pretty good this year. I think if they go 2 or 3 deep that **might** give him a yr.

After the way I've read that this has been handled over the past month or so, I'm certain I wouldn't have accepted it if I were Fuller. Guess it's a good thing for him that I'm not him. ;)

that's not a violation of the open meetings act..........ALL matters involving personnel are handled in a closed or executive session.

In an apparent violation of the Texas Open Meetings Act, the Ector County Independent School District board of trustees named Leon Fuller as athletic director following a lengthy executive session during a Tuesday board meeting.

ECISD’s board agenda did not detail the name of the AD candidate, which is required by the Texas Open Meetings Act. Board members discussed the AD slot in executive session, which is not allowed under the act without naming the person being discussed.

but didn't they name the finalist a while back........when the Principal quit because he was named a finalist?

in this case they were going into the board meeting with a lone finalist and under the act the name has to be provided...weird deal...

I think that's when Fuller withdrew his name from consideration. It's kind of been messed up, to say the least.
