So i'm staying w/ my parents this weekend because of fathers day, and I wake up this morning to the sound of helicopters.. At first I thought it was just a lawnmower but once I heard 2 or 3 I knew something was up.. So I turn it the t.v. on and happen to see people just a couple of blocks away on the tops of their houses waiting to be rescued.. Turns out half of Gainesville is underwater.. I just hope everyone is o.k.

There is flooding all over the place. I got 5 inches at my place in Celina but for whatever reason we drain well. My yard was covered for a few minutes but not long. Plus an inch yesterday.
Sherman is flooding and Gainesville was under water and according to the river guys the elm fork will crest at close to 30 feet. The old record was 28.1 in September 86.

The flooding reminds me of the 1998 flood in Cuero and Gonzales.:(

oh and if anybody wants to get mad about I-35 being closed...RMAC is the one who had to close it off! :(

He sent this to me earlier today:

"Yeah I had to close down the service road on 35 cuz the water was over 4 feet high this morning."

Talked to my parents today. It didn't flood in their part of town but it did everywhere else apparently. All of my relatives are fine as well and the water receded by about 3:00 pm.

I watched video from WFAA Channel 8 while at work. It's the same pics that Keith put up. All I can say is that the city has NEVER seen something like this. Some of those buildings that will have water damage are historical landmarks within the state.

How much did Gainesville get? It must have been a lot in a very short period of time.

Very sad news about the deaths. Especially the 5 year old..tragic. Will pray for the family.

Man, I remember floods like that back in the sixties in Sinton. The whole west end of town would go under right up to the RR tracks in the middle of town. Helped evacuate people several times in the Guards' 6x's. Scary stuff!

My prayers are with yall.

They were saying some thing like 9 inches last night plus what had already been built up from the storms the past few nights before it.. The main reason for the flood is that there is a creek (Pecan Creek) that goes thru downtown Gainesville and when it rains the city is set up where most of the water drains will drain into this creek and it washes away into the Elm-Fork Trinity.. Well when this storm hit last night it was more then the creek and the Elm-Fork Trinity could handle and so the water kept building until it eventually spilled over into the streets of downtown gainesville..

there's lots of water in the vicinity of Gainesville with the Trinity and Red Rivers in the vicinity and that creek...really sad there....

Some kind of flood. I don't ever remember Gainesville lookin like that. Our prayers are with the Gainesville Leopards and their friends and families. Thank God the river is receding.

That other dude was Mike Myers (aka Shrek's voice!) and Chris Tucker was trying hard to not laugh because of Kanye's statement.
