as stated in the region 1 thread, this is merely the regional rankings i made to pull from for my top 100--so no changes, just showing region 2 only

The ONE IMO WOW pick is having Van as low as you do...I know they have NOT played up to their talent the last couple of years, BUT They will still be a team to watch for..The OL is FINALLY a bit bigger and they are going to a system that will allow them to get the ball to their stud RB in many diff ways

Van is obviously a team with HUGE upside, but if Calhoun has to do it alone again this year, it won't matter. For now, they are still the #3 pick in their district

A Not alot of Region II folks on this board
B. The last two years the talent of depth in this region has suffered..MAINLY because teams like Tatum, Jefferson, Daingerfield went 2A
C. Last year was a BAD year in East Texas football for 3A( most of Region II is East Texas)....Alot of teams advancing as deep as they did had no buisness being that far in the play-offs.

Well Bboro was no slouch nor an embarassment. I think they would have played Venon even. Sides, we were ok and we are region 2 right.......

I saw Van last year and that OL was weak as unsweet tea. If the line didnt vastly improve over offseason, they are one and done at best.

Has nothing to do with my opinion of who Celina played. Compared to before realignment Region II was weaker last year. Just the simple truth. You lose a State Title team in Tatum. You lose a two teams like Jefferson and Daingerfield. Other teams like Atlanta, Spring Hill and Pleasant Grove all have went thru down swings...teams like Carthage get bumped down into region III.

I agree BUT they sare a bit bigger this year, AND they are getting away from the offense they ran last year

They were pretty decent size last year but just were terrible. If they didnt improve, they better discover a system to put the ball in the end zone without having a line to get em there ;)

To Celina Fans,

My Opinion of Region II last year has nothing to do Celina and who they played in the play-offs. A team cannot control who their opponent is in the play-offs and all they can do is oplay who advances...Now in saying that...Last year was WEAKER for East Texas 3A than it has been in a few years. That does not mean there were no good teams in Region II.

In fact at the top Region II was still solid, with Celina, LE, Gilmer and Brownsboro. But where Region II suffered last year was the depth of great teams in the first couple of rounds in the play-offs

Just look at Celina's Region II Opponents in the play-off
combined record 33-16

LH's Region III PLay-off Opponents
38-12

Hondo's Region 4 opponents
36-14

Vernon Region I Opponents
37-13

Break it down further
Brownsboro played TWO straight teams with losing records in the play-offs..and then played Pilot Point who had 5 losses on season.

Canton's two wins in the play-offs came agianst two teams with a combined record of 9-14

So again, my belief that Region II DII was weak last year is not a knock on Celina, just simple fact East Texas 3A DII football was down for many reasons

Of course, the final 3 opponents were undefeated before we played them. ;)

i just want to throw out there that daingerfield went 4-6 after moving down to 2A, and Jefferson went 10-2

don't think that means they would have helped the region in 2006. I also don't think Tatum would have won the title in in 3A, although they would have likely been the opponent celina faced in the quarterfinals.

New Boston could have beaten Jefferson in Mt Pleasant. NB was the better team but made tons of mistakes in that game. Especially in the first half.

I agree, Tatum would IMO not have won state but still went pretty deep in the play-offs Daingerfield struggled last year for many reasons, and Jefferson I cant say they would have done well in 3A or not, they had alot of talent coming back from a play-off team in 3A the year before so it is hard to tell..BUT those two teams were part of the depth Region II lost with them, and Carthage.
Add other teams struggling like Van, Spring Hill, Pleasant Grove, and Atlanta diluted Region II alot IMO

And I have not even mentioned teams like Commerce who has struggled the last 2-3 years who used to be a staple in the play-offs year in and year out

What happened to Commerce?

They were at or near the top in North Texas for the better part of a decade. I never really heard anything about their decline, but given where they were, and where they are now, it is surprising.

I guess it's only as surprising as Sealy, but i always considered Commerce to be more consistent, if not as successful

The changing of coaches finally caught up to them...though it is not like they have fallen to complete bottom, but like u said they have lost the consistency they were known for
