AUSTIN, Texas -- XM Satellite Radio is now the official satellite radio home of The University of Texas Longhorns. Under a new five-year sports broadcasting and marketing agreement starting Sept. 1, UT sports programming will be heard on XM channel 241.
XM will air every regular-season Texas football game, most UT men's basketball games, select games of women's basketball and baseball, and every weekly Longhorns Sportsline radio show with coaches Mack Brown and Rick Barnes.
"The Texas athletic program is steeped in pride and tradition, and XM Radio is proud to be helping further that tradition by bringing Texas games to millions of people across America," said Eric Logan, XM's Executive Vice President of Programming. "With an XM radio, a Texas fan can hear games virtually anywhere from coast to coast. Texas is a powerful addition to XM's line-up of college sports teams, and it bolsters our position as the 'ultimate destination' for college sports fans," Logan said.
"UT Athletics has been treated with enormous respect by the satellite radio industry, and this partnership between the Longhorns Sports Network/UT Athletics and XM is continued evidence of that," said Chris Plonsky, UT Director of Women's Athletics/Senior Associate AD Men's/Women's Athletics External Services.
"Our alumni base is large and international in scope. XM has committed to expanded programming opportunities and an easily located channel for Texas sports. Satellite radio provides a great alternative for fans who can not access our conventional statewide radio affiliates or listen to games via the internet," Plonsky said.
Texas fans can tune into the games on XM radios for the car, home, office, and portable use. XM is broadcast nationwide to more than 8 million subscribers.
In addition to carrying Texas games, XM will air a variety of Big 12 football and basketball games, including the Big 12 football and basketball championships, starting this fall. XM is also the exclusive satellite radio network of the Allstate Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National Championship Game, Allstate Sugar Bowl, Tostitos Fiesta Bowl and FedEx Orange Bowl.
