cool. my grandpa always told me that Chicago was closer to us in the DFW area than El Paso was. he wasn't too far from the truth.

I was just wondering last night if the Port Isabel 7 on 7 guys are going to drive to Cuero on Friday to play @ 9:00AM Saturday or get up and leave PI at 2 in the morning..... that is a pretty long drive...... I guess about 4 1/2 hours? I've never driven it so I don't know.

Texas is HUGE - no doubt......... Isn't like 878 or something like that from Orange to El Paso?

Texas is big and someone once said when they melt all the snow in Alaska that Texas would again be the biggest state in the US.

After the Civil War the Northern General Phillip Sheridan was stationed in Texas for a while. He once remarked "If I owned Hell and Texas I would rent out Texas and live in Hell."

Actually that might make more economic sense than most would realize. For example Texas has 268,581 square miles. If you could just rent each square mile for $100 per year (this is less than $10 per month) you could made $26,858,100 a year in rental income! :)

When I was in the Army and stationed at Ft. Hood, it was funny to listen to all my fellow "yankee" soldiers complain about getting transferred to California or somewhere on the east coast.
It was always, "It's great to be getting back closer to home but I need an extra week of travel time just to get out of Texas!"
One guy even thought he could take a trip from Killeen to Corpus for the day!

I guess using Port Isabel is good in a way that it (distance wise) is the farthest south and most remote of any 3A school in the state.

But Brownsville is a bit further south than Port Isabel is (about 22 miles) and is a much larger city, therefore a better reference point.

the last mile marker in Texas is 880 at the Sabine River in Orange, and there is actually a sign on i10 in Orange that says El Paso 857 miles I think it is.

Orange has the distinction of having Exit 880 on Interstate 10 within its city limits, which is the highest numbered exit and mile marker on an interstate highway or freeway in North America.
